P0342 computer code-mistake??

My Leganza is not running, it shut down on the free way and I had it towed home. We hooked a diagnostic machine to it and its saying that its the cam shaft sensor (low signal). I have heard that this computer code may be a mistake and that its actually the crank shaft sensor. Does anyone know if either of these things would cause the car to just stop running? Or is the problem actually elsewhere? Thanks for any help!
