I have recently been given a 88 trooper ii by my grandfather, it has 135,000 or so miles all the belts and hoses are dry rotted. I currently drive a nissan 350z, my plan is to sell the z and use the trooper as my only car. I am leaving for marine basic training in aug. 2010. I would like to know what websites are the best for finding the parts i need.

Thank you for any help.

As far as replacing hoses and belts, any auto parts store will have those. You either have a 2.6L or 2.8L engine, and both of those are GM built motors. If you ever get in a situation where you need other, harder to find parts, there are several sources. I hate to throw another DIY site at you but, for Isuzu owners, planetisuzoo.com is best. If you find you need parts, Jerry Lemond has a warehouse full of them and you can contact him through the planetisuzoo.com site. Jerry is a retired Isuzu master tech who used to be the technician training director for Isuzu. When it comes to zu knowledge, no one is better. but more important than that, Jerry is just a super nice guy!

If you need some parts and used will work ofr you, you can post a request in the classified section of planetisuzoo also. I have a bunch of parts, it just depends on what you need. I have 3 (about to be 4) isuzu's. 2 89's, a 98 SLX (Trooper) and I'm buying a 94 Rodeo this weekend, so I have accumulated a bunch of stuff over the years. I'm on planetisuzoo also, same user name.

Thanks for your help.
The motor is a 2.6 w/ a 5 speed trans. I plan on doing all the work myself in efforts to save money. I plan on just getting it running good. Around how much would you expect me to spend on all the hoses and belt, as well anything else that could come up. I have about 1,500 that I can put towards it now but once I sell my car I will have a little over 5 grand. I'm hoping I find that there isn't to much wrong with it once I start digging around under the hood.

The biggest issue with old 2.6's is Vacuum lines. they dry rot and it will run rough. Other than that, a good tune-up would be advisable as well as oil/filter change. When you are ready to do the vacuum lines, let me know and i'll send you a diagram that shows where all of the lines go.

By the way, where will you be taking basic ? Parris Island??

Yes sir. I will be in Paris Island I see that isn't to fast from where you are. I'm scheduled to leave on august 9th. I'm trying to get my date closer. The only thing holding me back on leaving is my crunches, which I'm working on everyday.

Would you suggest one of the repair manuals that are around twenty bucks.

If you can find an Isuzu manual, you'll be in better shape. Haynes and Chilton manuals have a lot of mis-infomation in them. They would be a reference point to start but if it is a big task, ask for advice first and you'll save some work/headaches (especially on torque settings)

I went up to my local auto parts store bought all the belts and radiator hose plus the repair manual. I cant wait to begin working on the trooper. I believe my grandfather has bought all the vacuum lines i need. it would be much appreciated to get any help with diagrams for hose hook ups or any other advice you have for me. I will be posting pics of the trooper when i get it and as i make progress with it.

Thank you
Will
