help replacing window motor and regulator

My power window is stuck in the up position on my 99 Firebird. The instructions for replacing the motor/regulator say to lower the window half way.
My question is, is it OK to to leave the window all the way up supported with 3 door stops wedged between the window and the door when I drill out the rivets on the motor/regulator assembly?
Will the window move freely after removing the regulator/motor assembly?
This is the first time I've tried to replace a window motor/regulator.
Any other tips would be appreciated.

I don't see why it would be an issue to keep it up. :dunno:
