I currently own a '95 Honda Civic and plan on doing a motor swap in the next couple of months. I'd like to try and go all power so I was wondering which motor would be the best to swap out for? From what I can gather the H22A swap is gonna be more money that I wanna spend. (correct me if I'm wrong). So I'm thinking the Type-R B18C5 motor is what I need to go with, correct?

Thanks,
William T. Thompson

or you can go with the gsr, and tweak it up internally

It would be cheaper to get a B18C1 and sup it up than buy a B18C5? The Type-R has more horsepower to begin with, right? Why wouldn't you go that route?

Thanks,

the B18C5 is almost the same thing as the B18C1. The B18C5 has better pistons, crank, springs and retainers.

b18c1 has 170 hp @ 7600
b18c5 has 195 hp @ 8000

b18c1 torque is 128lb-ft @ 6200
b18c5 torque is 130lb-ft @ 7500

b18c1 compression ratio is 10.0:1
b18c5 compression ratio is 10.6:1

with the b18c1 you can, upgrade the ecu, bolt on a complete exhaust system, test pipe and cam gears, even camshafts to bust more power than the type-r. the type r is good don't get me wrong, but the price difference from the gsr vs the type r. you can use that extra money to bolt on more power to the gsr. if you get either or use the JDM 98 Spec Type-R header. it buts out more hp than any aftermarket out there. Even mugen uses the same bends.
