Just Thinking ...

I was sitting in class , not thinking of school work as usual . Well i was thinking about Intakes and stuff on a cars. Well technically wouldnt it be possible to put a decently sized Fan right before the filter , controlled by a switch , and when the switch is switched it would force more air into your engine , dont know if it would work . "just thinking"

look up electricsupercharger.com they have kinda of the same idea. i think it is a bit gimmicky though.

it claims 4-6% hp gain , hmm . I would of thought more than that . Well it does look very gimmicky , id rather contstruct my own , then waste 300 dollars on a fan and a filter..:hehe:

I think I am actually going take a good RC motor and get a 3" 3 blade fan and make something right before the throttle body inside the intake(dopnt have to worry about wrecking my intake, cost me 10 bucks, lol), I got a motor that spins around 30 something thousand RPM under no load, off of 14.4 tho, but isnt that what a charging system produces when running. and your car has 12 while sitting. I probably wont have it done by the 7th when i go to the track, cuz I just started working again, and have to get the whole engine in and running by then. but It will be cool if it works, although I doubt it.

i mean , technically it should work . the intake takes in "X" amount of air and the motor FORCING more air to be sucked in would intake "X+5" amount of air . Technically it should work , and prob/could give a small boost going like 60 mph , if you turned it on with a switch .

wouldnt the fan have to push the air at a faster velocity than the intake could suck it in? me thinks so, if not, a fan could hinder air intake velocity by being in the way and disrupting the air flow. It's a good idea in theory, a sort of mini-charger, but I think it would be an idea better put to use directing cold air from some place to the filter, using it as a cooler for the air to the filter.

Seeing that no one is responding to this , i wonder if its ever been done .

sounds like a cool idea, but engines pull a shit load of air. seems like you would have a hard time finding a fan that wouldnt just slow it down (?) and if somthing did happen to the fan a bunch of plastic pieces being sucked into your engine would not be good :bandit:

DUAL INTAKE!?!?!?! crazy crazy, crazy like a rockstar with a bottle of tequila!

wish that link worked...so we could see what you mean. how would you do that, the opening into the throttle body is only so big, wouldnt that end up runnin you too lean anyway, without upgrading the fuel delivery?

:bonghitte dual intake, oi, would you open up and machine a second throttle body on the otherside of the manifold?

oh man I gotta go sleep, this is trippin me.

Those are just gimmicks, look on ebay under electric turbo. They have been around for quite some time. The only way this could be effective is only at idle or low rpm (maybe crusing around in 5th). Go take the filter off your intake and put your hand over the pipe (don't cover the opening all the way otherwise you are going to hurt yoursef.) Now rev the motor, you should be that it already pulls air in hard. All a little electric fan would do is restrict airflow during acceleration. There is no replacement for the real thing.

also, just a thought but if you have the air being pushed in couldnt it get bunched up and get the air warmer causing the intake to loose its efficiency?

yea but i think thats only an issue with turbos and s/c i dont think a fan could compress it enough to matter

mines only gonna cost me like 35 bucks tho, and if it doesnt work, oh well, I seen em on ebay when they came out, like 250. havent sen em recently, probably much cheaper now. and if you look at the other electric SC thread youll see I dont beleive it either, just wanted to try it out to se for sure.
