Electrical Problems

I've got a few electrical problems, first my headlights stopped working, along with the cruise control. I had a similar problem in a previous car and I replaced the altenator and it took care of the problem. I also plan on checking the fuses. Is there anything else I should take a look at? I'm hoping it's not a major issue like a short or somthing. Also has anyone replaced an altenator before on a 96 civic ex? I've done this before on other cars...any help would be great.

check the harness for the headlights, there might be a cut wire or something. thats what happened on my car, on the right side the low beams kept on going out and then i checked the harness the was a exposed wire. looked like something was chewing on it

not sure about your other questions, but i definately think you should check the fuses first. i remember when i put my amp and subs back in my car, i installed everything including a head unit, then took it out, then put it back in again because the subs weren't working, then i found out my power wire fuse blew out. how stupid.........

I checked the fuses last night, none of them were blown. I took off the front bumper to get a closer look at the bulbs and I think I found the problem. The harness (the thing the bulb plugs into) had all kinds of corrosion on it. A white puss like stuff that kind of looked like battery acid? I thought that was weird. Also I have a set of plama bulbs in the car, the cheap ones off e-bay. Is this the source of the problem? Anybody have a similar thing? Also how hard is it to put a new harness on. Should I give up and take it to a shop? Oh yeah one more weird detail, both lights are out and the bright light indicator on the dash stays on, even when I switch it off. Almost like the switch is stuck in the open position.
Thanks

Yeah that could be your problem. I've seen them fry the plug on the harness and have heard it happens pretty often with certain bulbs. I just stick to regular old bulbs.
