02' Si/TypeR *Picture intense*

Ok, a few threads out there have had the 02' Si/TypeR brought up in them. I wanted to start one just for it. What do you all really think about its potential? Myself, the TypeR is really starting to grow on me. The Si, is coming along. Even though they are pretty much the same, I still like the TypeR's styling. I just wonder how hard it would be to convert that onto an Si. Probably not, given what has been done for current civics. But here are some stock pics, along with some worked over photochops, what do you all think?

The Si/Type R looks aight, I'm more impressed with its engine than its styling though. I guess I'm not a hatchback kinda guy. When do the good people of the United states get a Type R???!?!?!?!?!? Huh? And a type R wt some power, you hear me over there at American Honda???!?!!?!

kbslacker if you are talking about modifying Si to look like CTR. That shouldn't be much of a problem since it's just bodykits, bigger rear spoiler and white type r rims. I am sure you can get those from Kingmotorsports.com (official mugen distrubutor for North America) soon. Just like Mugen ITR (RSX for America) parts is already on the future product list on the page.

The engine is just a base RSX engine even further de-tuned. 160 hp at 6100rpm and 132 lb-ft torque @ 5000rpm. I am very sure soon people will be swapping Type S engine into Si. Pretty much turning Si into Civic Type R.

Civic Si already burrow's heavily from Civic Type R's suspension unit. So I can assure you that it will handle much better than the regular Civic although it still uses McPherson strut design. Honda already has made upgrades to 2002 Civic with bigger anti-roll bar and stiffer springs.

I drove a Civic Type-R yesterday, and no matter what you think of the looks, this car is just superb!
It has been playing on my mind ever since, and if I was in better circumstances (i.e. not wanting to leave the country!) I would put a deposit down tomorrow!
It is everything I wanted from the ITR but never got! And the price is just a steal here!
Like you guys, I thought it looked horrible, until I saw the R in the flesh!
Now I am smitten!:D

I think I can grow to like it. Actually, I've seen that pic of that one dropped and really like it's modding potential.

I donno, I can't decide. Some angles are like, shweet, others it's like, :rolleyes:

Kind of like the IS300 wagon. Some angles look good others look like ass.

Wow, I envy you. I would really like to get me a TypeR. I willprobably end up getting the Si, and making a conversion. :)

I think it will grow on me too...Just cant get used to the shift knob.

Some of those pics look nasty, while others, Like the black one looks cool, i want to see one in real life.:rolleyes:

I can sum up my feelings for it in one word. Blah!

I like its performance potential, but the looks of it don't sit quite right with me. It reminds me way too much of a Ford Focus, and that's just scary. The shift location is a neat touch, and I know I've seen a couple other cars that are at least conceptually supposed to place the shifter in a similar location, so it may be a trend we'll all be faced with soon anyway. Regardless, this Civic looks entirely too much like a Mini MiniVan. I don't like it much at all. Some of the lines look pretty cool, but the front end looks like a freakin' minivan! Maybe in real life it gives a different feel, as I know that's always possible. Until I can see one in real life, however, I'm gonna give the aesthetics a thumbs down.

You guys...its ALMOST as ugly as the Aztek! Am i the only one that sees that?!?!

I agree that the stock pictures illustrate a visually-uninspiring car. However, modded I have seen pictures of some very nice-looking new Civic hatch backs. I do miss the look of the 3rd gen. Integra and the previous ODB II Civic coupe, which I felt looked great in stock form.

As for the modding potential of the new Civics, I can't wait until the limitations of the K series engines are explored. I think it was Road and Track that put the RSX Type S against nine other cars last month. What struck me more than anything else was that even though the RSX was among the top performers (competitors included the Subaru WRX, which is competing well with the $40,000+ Audi S4), it posted by a notable margin (of over 10% greater than any other car) the best fuel economy in the comparison. The new Civic Si, as noted previously in the thread, uses essentially the same engine. Tuned properly, this engine shoulod prove to be a clean, efficient, yet screaming powerhouse!

I saw the Type R in real life last weekend, probably the same yellow one that jay@af put up.--it wasn't on a pedestal though. I must admit, it looks nicer in person, though I didn't realise how big it was. I couldn't shake the mini-van image from my mind.

Actually, the pic Jay put up is not of a TypeR, it is the Si. Just so you know. :)

Civic Si isn't out yet so I really don't know how you could have seen it.

we have seen it and driven it!

there are always all kinds of pre pro cars running around if you are in a city with a regional or head office. heck everyone at our office has seen a couple of MINIs running around the last few weeks and the press cars won't even be on the road until April.

Honda send a couple Si to VTEC.Net's founder for test drive. But I haven't heard anyone else that have test drove it other than magazines.

yeah, I guess they don't look too bad. I guess I'm starting to get used to the body style.:smoker:

But back to topic... the new hatch is gayer then gay, but its hondas SECOND move towards smaller cars, the first being the insight... look for the NEW CRX to be around in 05-06 :D

I think the Si looks a little plain. The TypeR has a little better looking lines. But you also have to think that this is the style are car makers are going towards. The more 'featuristic' look.

The CTR looks decent... Are the Si's equiped with 15 inch wheels or are they 16's??? I feel so satisfied with my 2000 Si!!! If I had waited until the 2002 Si, I probably would have gotten something else.:bloated:

I think the SI look alot better in the gth gen (99-00 coupe). I mean, true, the hatch would be faster, but the coupe just has that look to it.

I see nothing but Ford Focuses.....:D

If they just fix the fuggin headlights and that gay grill opening itd be the ish!!! The rear view looks phat, so thes the side.. the headlights just ruin the car :(

i would definitly like to see a headlight conversion done though. maybe IS healights? nah trying to think what would fit and look good...

it looks diff and I liek the over all contour of it..I like the smooth body lines...

I think the type R look AWESOME except for the headlights. They are just wayyyyyyyy too big and disneyish. HAHA.

this hurts me to say this but i think they look like the Toyota Echo so there is no way id buy one.

Besides looking like shit, I do believe the SpecV may offer better performance/handling for less $$$...someone please prove me wrong

Someon on SHO has a Red Type R. It's lowered and has wheels on it. The damn thing is tyte as hell!!!

As far as stock, they look like a$$ IMO!
