Equality & Political Correctness.

Before I get started here, I know im probably going to take some, possibly alot of heat from this thread. No matter how I say this, its going to come out wrong, but I want opinions.
A while ago, as most of you know, I wanted to join the Canadian Forces Army Reserve. I went through all the paperwork, medical exam, etc. I got to the fitness test, and because I only did 16 pushups I failed the test. I was supposed to complete 19 to pass that portion of the test. I was dissapointed, but knew that it was not a big deal. I was dissapointed to find out that a female that is the same age as me would only be required to complete 9 pushups. To make a long story short, I trained for a few weeks, and was able to re-take the test and pass. My beef's are with the lack of "equality" between standards (not just enrollment standards).
The part that makes me mad, is that one of the first things that I read when I went to the recruiting center is this:
"The Canadian Forces is an equal opportunity employer"
Which is obviously not true, when I have to 19 pushups, and a female has only to do 9. Im not trying to say I shouldnt have to do 19, but it should be the same.
This proves that the Canadian Forces is blatantly politically correct, to the point where it is ignorant and plain stupid.
Figure: 200 pound man does 18 pushups = FAIL
100 pound woman does 9 pushups = PASS
Meanwhile a 200 pound man probably CAN bench press his own body weight, while the 100 pound women probably CAN'T bench press her body weight which is half as much. This may be a generalization, but I'm sure it's the truth 95+ % of the time. In 99 + % of the time, I would bet my left nut the above male is stronger than the above female.
Let's not be ignorant and say women are physically built the same as men. Let's not slap evolution in the face here just to be political correct. Sorry, but I don't follow the conventions of this PC age we live in, I follow realities, and the reality is that women are GENERALLY less physically strong than men. You simply can't argue with empirical evidence. Also, this explains why standards are lowered for women: PC quotas. Who cares about the quality of Soldiers?', is basically the question that the fitness test asks.
This applies to this job, any other physically demanding job, or just about any show of strength. Sorry, but there is a difference between men and women that puts the MAJORITY of them at an immediate disadvantage when doing this job compared to men. NOT sexist...Realities that people don't want to accept. For God's sake, I've met dozens of strong women, I'm just saying 'generally' this stuff is true, and IT IS, like it or not.
From what I have heard, on the first day of Basic Training, I will be told something like: "You are only as strong as your weakest link"...In that case, let me do 9 pushups instead of 19.
Comments, Opinions, Flames, All welcome. Please keep it constructive as I have attempted to do above. If anyone has a direct problem with this thread, pm me and I will close it and nuke it dead.

i totally agree. double standards are no good in the military. If the women aren't strong enough (becasue of lower standards) to get their job done, then lives are lost. Simple hard truth.

Atleast some people agree with me. I would be interested to hear the opinion of some females. I doubt they would feel the same way.

I would like to take this debate up a notch, and argue the point that the public sector as a whole, not just the military, has swung the pendulum too far back in an attempt to rectify bad decisions of the past.Almost all of New Zealands local government and government jobs are allocated on the basis of race and gender first, ability second.Education funding is skewed in favour of schools with high percentages of Maori pupils, the police force has far lower standards for height and fitness for women, and potential nurses and teachers stand much less chance of advancement if they don't show a high degree of 'cultural awareness'
The present system of 'positive discrimination' is just as wrong as the old-fashioned prejudices, with the added disadvantage that because the majority is being discriminated against, there is a much smaller pool of talent from which to draw.I am in favour of equality.Real equality. But let's be blunt about this,if you are sick,or disabled,or smaller than I am,then I may pause to help you towards achieving your goals, but I don't think that I should have to step aside and let you take my place.

Political correctness is bullshit. It's not the way things are. It's a sugar coating on the real world, hiding the hard facts from a society that no longer feels it can cope.
Just like Taranaki says, in NZ it's race & gender first, then ability. You want equality? Forget if he or she is black, white, mexican, maori, fucking martian whatever. Worry about whether they can do the job or not.
POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS MIND CONTROL.

You made some very good points here, Mr.T. Discrimination is still discrimination, its just been turned around now.
What the hell is wrong with our society that wants to be in favour of minorities of every kind even if it adversely affects the major populous? Why do we have to print a new Canadian ten dollar bill where two of the three Soldiers on it are women and the one who is not a woman cannot be sexed because the picture is small and in the background? Did it occur to these PATHETIC F*CKS in the offices of Ottawa who decided upon this sick idea that almost 90% of the Canadian Forces are men, and it would NOT be prejudice of you to have three male soldiers on the bill? Wouldn't it only be fair to only have one woman per 10 soldiers to keep in check with the actual demographics? WOULDN'T THIS BE FAIR YOU IDIOTS?!! I don't personally give a shit about the ten dollar bill having two women on it for reasons of Military pride, if that's what you're thinking, because I am very happy that there are women in the Army, and I don't care who or what is allowed in the Military (It does bother me that the physical standards are lower for women, but that's another point entirely). What bothers me is the principle, that we as a society spent so much time in the past being prejudice in every possible way in every possible medium, that we make up for it as a society by being equally ignorant and being "Reverse - Prejudice" with just about everything!! Reverse prejudice is still prejudice, only it's prejudice towards me I, as a young, white male aged 18 - 48, will never be able to get hired to do a photo shoot for a "Now hiring" poster because the only people who are on "Now Hiring" posters HAVE TO BE MINORITIES. I swear, it's the law!! Have you ever seen a poster like this? If they are not minorities, rest assured they have to be old, disabled or disfigured. If they are not white men with these problems, they can be any number of minorities, which are all acceptable on a "Now Hiring" sign.
Not only do these "Now Hiring" signs, like the one in front of RMH Telemarketing for example, or the other one for "Ontario Public Works" have to have minorities on the sign, they have to be as diverse as possible without having any white men. They need to show people who who mentally handicapped working at a computer, and a person who is deaf and blind operating a radio. Of course, leave the poster to recruit people for the track team to include an Italian hit man in a wheel chair, and a member of an African tribe still in his tribal outfit, with a broken leg. Of course, if they are hiring people for an office job which requires a lot of typing, they will have a "Now Hiring" poster with an Arab man who has no limbs. Oh, of course, when it comes to showing cover models for men's underwear, women need to be in the ad. Even for the Sperm doner recruiting posters, there are WOMEN SHOWN DEPOSITING SPERM!!! DON'T THESE MORONS REALIZE THAT A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS IS "A - OK", AND AFTER THAT IT ALL JUST TURNS INTO THE JOKE IT IS!!! SOME OF THIS SHIT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE IN PRACTICAL TERMS!!! HALF OF THESE MINORITIES YOU SHOW IN THESE POSTERS I HAVEN'T SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. IT'S LIKE YOU MAKE UP RACES OF PEOPLE JUST TO PREVENT WHITE MEN FROM BEING IN THE PUBLIC EYE.
YES - We WERE prejudice in the past. But that was long ago - WAY LONG!!! And granted, we have a long way to go, why does our society have to be such a joke? I'm in favour of equal rights, but what is happening now is NOT equal in any way shape or form. Making me pay twice as much for my car insurance is NOT RIGHT IN ANYWAY. I have NEVER been in a single accident or received one single fucken ticket. Yet, because the insurance companies are discriminating, and being PREJUDICE PLAIN AND SIMPLE towards MALES, this is ok. If statistics proved women got into more accidents would women have to pay more for insurance? HELL NO!!!!! Our society would never accept it. If a minority got into more accidents would we be able to charge them more money for insurance? Oh wait...Empirical evidence does prove some stuff, but racial profiling isn't allowed. YET PREJUDICE TOWARDS ME IS ALLOWED - EVEN WELCOMED WITH OPEN ARMS BY OUR GOVERNMENT. Because it's ok. Right? You are one SICK PATHETIC FUCK if you agree. Doing the opposite of what happened in the past is not ok to make up for what we did before. We should promote equality, at all costs, and work together to grow as a society. A team. And would someone please explain this to me:
I was watching a Wal - Mart commercial in June which was a tribute to dead Canadian Soldiers who fought in World War II and it showed two pictures of now dead Soldiers - ONE man, and ONE woman.
What the hell is with this? Women were not even allowed in the Canadian Military before 1974, so why are these idionts not only being reverse predjudice, but actually changing history to be this way? What is wrong with these people? You cannot change history to satisfy some PC urge you have! WE WERE prejudice in the past, and although we have a long way to go, we simply cannot delete these simple FACTS from our memories. Yes, women did serve in the second world war as Nurses and in other similar jobs, but showing a woman on a commercial and making her out to be an Infantry fighting Soldier is misleading and fucking ignorant you ignorant bunch of fucks.
I accept everyone the way they are. There are so many beautiful people in the world in every shape, size, sex, colour, creed, ethnic background, and race. I hold no prejudices towards anyone, and I don't hold prejudice towards any lifestyle which does not adversely affect others. I am now, and always have been the furthest from prejudice a person can be. I tell it like it is whether you like it or not. If you can't accept what I have to say you are a weak piece of shit. I do not believe in censorship.
Anything less...Would be uncivilized.
*Sorry about the profanities, but this stuff makes me sick, also, no offense was meant to anyone.

There is no doubt that there is a double standard when women enter the military. Heck - just look at the haircut requirements.
Women can be the finest tacticians, engineers and cooks you'll ever get, but when it comes to slugging it out in the trenches, they're at a huge disadvantage. The very best women (in that situation) might be as good as the average man.

My favorite silencer for this argument is that tennis player... I am forgetting his name. I think he competed in professional tennis in the late 1970's and early 1980's. He did all right as a man, and then got a sex change, after which he competed as a woman, and suddenly he (technically "she") was an unstoppable champion, because no woman could match his speed and strength. He/she got taken to court, in which he/she successfully defended his legal status as a woman, and was allowed to continue to compete professionally in women's tennis.
Along the same lines, I have heard the argument that the UConn women's championship basketball team (http://www.cptv.org/TVUConnWB.asp), as good as they are, good easily be defeated by any good men's high school basketball team.

Haha Rich your post looks like the fine print about some medication in a magazine. But I did read the whole thing and I do agree. The double discrimination is bullshit. People who are not as capable to do a job as someone else should not get it. They should look for a job they are more capable for or they should go to college to make themselves more capable to get a better job. And as for those people who are completely incapable of filling jobs because of physical or mental conditions, maybe our government should be supporting them instead of those perfectly mentally and physically capable people who are just too LAZY to find a job.
