I HAVE BEGUN RECOLORING THE INTERIOR ON MY CAR, THE PLASTIC PIECES I HAVE USED A METHOD I FOUND ON THE BOARD AND IT HAS WORKED VERY WELL NO CHIPPING OR ANYTHING TOOK A GOOD 2 WEEKS DIDNT WANNA RUSH AND MESS IT UP.
NOW MY QUESTION IS WHAT METHOD IS BEST FOR RECOLORING THE VINLY AT LEAST I THINK ITS VINYL.
IVE READ ON THIS BOARD ABOUT PAINTS AND DYES FOR THE VINYL. WHICH IS BEST?
DOES ANYONE HAVE A FAQ OR INSTRUCTIONS THEY COULD HELP ME OUT WITH?
I DONT KNOW IF IT HELPS BUT THE VINYL IS BLACK/GRAY AND I WANNA GO TO WHITE I THINK DOES THAT MATTER?
I KNOW ITS A LOT OF QUESTIONS BUT I JUST WANNA GET IT RIGHT THANKS ALOT GUYS

Go to www.G2USA.com they have some good vinyl dye or so ive heard. Im gonna order mine soon:). Im also heard of SEM vinyl dye. I dont think it really will matter much that your vinyl is black/grey just make sure you get some vinyl prep so the vinyl will "suck up" the dye better and the color will soak in.:) Good luck with you interior. Im gonna head over to canadian tire soon and grab the stuff I need to start doing my plastic parts. Which method are you using for them?

NOT SURE ITS ON THIS BOARD SOMEWHERE I HAVE IT AT HOME I CAN POST LATER FOR YA. BUT BASICALLY I FOLLOWED THESE STEPS.
WASH PIECES THOROUGHLY
1. SAND WITH 320 GRIT SANDPAPER MAKE SURE ITS SANDED NICE HELPS THE PRIMER STICK
2. PRIMER USE A GOOD 4-5 COATS OR MORE SAND LIGHTLY IN BETWEEN WASH AGAIN AFTER
3. PAINT WITH ENAMEL PAINT USE 4-5 OR MORE COATS SPRAY LIGHTLY TOO MUCH WILL RUN. SAND AFTER FINAL COAT AND WASH AGAIN
4 SPRAY 3-4 COATS OF CLEAR ENAMEL SPRAY
LET DRY FOR A GOOD TWO DAYS TO MAKE SURE THE ENAMEL IS NICE AND HARD.
LOOKS GOOD TRYIG PEELING IT OFF SEEMS STUCK THERE PRETTY WELL
THE MORE TIME YOU TAKE ON IT THE BETTER IT WILL LOOK DONT TRY TO RUSH

What exactly is enamel paint?
So i put the primer coats on and then sand it and wash it?
and I do the same with the paint and clear coats?
Did you check out the vinyl dye's?

its not paint on the vinyl part. its "dye" which does just that. it soaks into the vinyl, dying it and permanently changing its color. Nothing is sticking to or on top of the vinyl. The vinyl is now that color. if you cut the vinyl, and looked at it from the side, the color of the vynil would be the color you dyed it. i can push on the vinyl parts all day long, and it'll flex a little bit just like it did before, without any cracking or whatever. basically, the vinyl is just a new color, and thats it.

to use dye, you have to first spray a vinyl/plastic prep solvent onto the vinyl to dry it out. This way it'll suck up the dye sorta like a sponge. once you've done that, then just spray the dye directly onto the vinyl. it'll soak it up just as easy as that.

i kept my dashboard in the car, and just took everything removeable out of it. then i taped everything off, and used the procedure i described above.

hey, i was just re-reading the original post, i'd be VERY careful using white. the little pockets on the door that are painted white in my car get dirty very quickly, i can only imagine the dashboard being all white. the stuff that gets on the white comes off easily, but its surprising how constantly they get dirty w/ just little stuff; crumbs, hairs, dirt, etc. i'm not so worried about the glove box and stuff, cause stuff falls off due to its angle, but a dashboard will get a lot of stuff just settling on it.

hey, sorry for all the questions. but i was wondering, do you need to paint a layer of clear coat after you dyed it? and when u were dye-ing the dash, did you need to put on a mask or somethin' so it won't get all over you?? i dunno how to take the pieces off...so i guess i would have to mask everything off ...:(
Thanks for all the information. :)

I have been reading through these forums for a few days and haven't seen a good informative post yet. I'm trying to paint my headliner in my 97 GSR. I thought it was as easy as using vinyl paint from AutoZone, Man was I wrong. That sh|t chips as soon as it dries. I know there should be a way around this. And any good information on how to do this the right way would be much appreciated. All I am looking to do is paint the headliner and nothing else. Thx in advance for any informative post or any information and walkthroughs or a website with such information

Ok, as far as i know, you can't paint cloth. I put new, red cloth over my original armrests. as for your headliner, i don't know what material your headliner is, but mine is cloth, so i just used the same cloth on the headliner as I did with my armrests. I just used some cloth glue and glued the red cloth to the old grey cloth of the headliner. If your headliner is vinyl, then you should get vinyl DYE, not paint. No, you don't put a clear coat on the vinyl after you have DYED it. When you dye vinyl, the vinyl turns that color. There isn't any paint on top of the vinyl at all. for instance, if you cut the dyed vinyl, the vinyl would be that color all the way through. There is nothing stuck on top of the vinyl, so you don't use a clear coat. That'd be like putting clearcoat on your stock vinyl. When I complete my interior here in the next few weeks, i'm going to write up a detailed faq that everyone can use to paint there interiors.
