For all you Z owners, how old are you? I'm 14 and I want to get a Z someday. I would just like to get an idea of how old everyone is so I can give an estimate as to around when I should be able to afford a Z (assuming all goes right).

If you start saving you could have one by the time your 18! I'm 21.

Well, I'd like to get a 350Z, new. Don't want to take a chance with used as I'll be moding it but using it as a daily driver.

Flyin, that's what I'm talkin bout. I'm gonna get a job this summer on top of rebuilding small engines (I do that now) and make as much as possible. Seems like a good start.

Flying Z, what kinda job does an 14-18 year old kid have to make near 30,000 in four years? I want a Z too, but college comes first. Im 23. But oh well, Ill be an Engineer this time next year.

skylinedesire
01-29-2003, 03:25 PM
well
30.000 / 4 = 7,500 a year
7,500 / 52 weeks = 145
145 / 7.50 an hour = about 20 hrs a week
and that would be assuming no taxes and no other spending

the only conclusion is if your 14 and want a z its definatly possible to have one

onetrav
01-29-2003, 04:17 PM
of course the 350z didnt exist 4 years ago. Oh well, I guess if you dont have to pay for anything then you can save that kinda money up.

Can you afford a roughly $700.00 a month payment plus insurance and fuel? I won't say I can't, I will say that I'm not going to be happy about it... And I'm 33 BTW and that is what it works out to be for me. Your results may vary :). onetrav, what dicipline will you be?

I'm 21. Bought my first brand new car, which is a DB Touring All options except side air-bags.

Bought it with a 2500k mark-up since all the other dealers was charging 5k markup.

I'm paying it off in about 2 years or less.

All it takes is dedication to your job and maintaing your financial needs.

I want to do something in the engineering field also, maybe mechanical, or maybe chemical.

onetrav

Thats cool. Id say mechanical is the most difficult. My friend is a chemical engineer.

well, right now the economy sucks and everyone is having a hard time just getting a job but most people start out at around 55,000 or so for both of those. I myself sould start out around 50,000. The nice thing is that in Engineering you advance quickly. My sister works for Harley Davidson and is only 28 and make well over 80,000

Whitebread
01-31-2003, 07:52 PM
Sounds good. I'd like to be well off doing something I like to do. I think I'll be happy with engineering.

try to get you calc out of the way. In engineering you have to take a minimum of calc 2.

AtomicBlowFish

I'm not an Engineer nor do I play one on TV. I am a Designer... Translated that means I have over 10 years of experience and don't have a BS level degree, I train new engineers.
I work in Aviation and design mechanical parts and pieces, electrical cable and harness parts but not to the board level, though I could. And Systems components. A jack of all trades...

Whitebread
02-03-2003, 09:37 AM
I will take AP calc by the end of my high school education. FST is next year and I believe pre-calc or something like that is junoir year.

How much algebra do you guys do on a daily basis?

for engineers, math is the foundation. calculus is the basics you will need to understand most of the topics. algebra is just part of calculus. differential equation is required for solving problems. physics will be your life if you go for mechanical engineering.
all engineering fields require physics (computer engeers don't really use it in their jobs).

Whitebread
06-01-2003, 12:48 PM
Well, I like math, I have no problem going beyond calculus. I will be taking it my senior year in highschool.

zrl
06-01-2003, 03:42 PM
make sure you're good at trigonometry first.
it's good to learn some calculus in high school, but you're still required to take calculus 1-3 in college (the one you take in high school has no credit value in college).

Whitebread
06-01-2003, 05:08 PM
The science department at my school told me that any and all AP classes are credits toward college. Also, I've only gone up to Advanced Algebra, so I've only touched on trig. Trig isn't hard.

Well I have no problem w/ you getting that car but you have to have some connections to get you a job around $8 an hr, right now I work at shitty BK, around 30hrs a week, im just trying to pay off my $1500 a year insurance. Im saying if you can find a job for $8 an hr while your still 14 and have the patience and dedication to go on that long then youll make it. Oh well if everything works out 4 me ill have a $10 an hr job and im only 16. Good luck.

your prob all going tto hate me for this but I'm a model and I make (just starting out) $1500 a day... when I get more established I'll be making $5000+ a day.... sick, sick money to be had in the modeling industy.... I'm just lucky I have good genetics... so my new Z is not far off... :bigthumb:

I'm 21 btw...

I'm prob going to get the base model and mod it up a little as I'll be using it for daily driving and some drifting fun every once in awhile...

I want this one but with white 19" Tenzo R-6's...

Hey little bro,

The economy is not too great right now, and if you can get a job that pays $8/hr at the age of 14.... you are tha $h*t! LoL, i am 16 and i have been job hunting since i was 15. From where i have gone, nobody hires a 15 year old unless it is a grocery store. All the cool places like CompUSA, BestBuy, and Frys you have to be 17 or 18 (tho i am not sure about cashier, but they dont make $8/hr). I found a job doing construction type stuff and i am making $8 pure profit (after tax!!!). The Z is an amazing car and you should get it if you can. Talk to your parents and see if they will work out some kind of loan, pay half if you make good grades or something. I am buying my parents maxima next year and i am very exited, buy you should most definately go for the Z!!!

-Dont give up, set goals, and work hard-

As it turns out, my parents employed me for the summer. My dad told me he'd pay me 10 an hour right off the bat. Also, I can work whenever I want and do what I want. It's nice. Only problem is that I run out of stuff to do. The other problem is that I'm spend all of my money on DIY audio right now. 300 Dollar headphones. 350 dollar amp, 500 dollar sources so on and so forth.

About the car, my dad says He'll give me his 03 maxima for free. I figure it is better that I get a Z after college. From what I hear from my college friends, your either workin, studyin, partyin or sleepin, not much time to mod my car or race. Plus, some colleges don't let freshman drive.

im 17 an so far i've had

1983 mustang red vert (Gave to family)
1978 280Z , Blue w/ lost of rust (SOLD $500)
1991 240SX, blue (crushed by a mac truck)

Im looking for a Z31 turbo, gonna put an intercooler, exhaust intake, ss bov, jwt ecu, 300ZX TT feul pump, whatever else is required to crank it up to 15psi, with any luck i'll smoke new 350Z's and have that cool bov sound! Oh by the way my incurance is on my parents plan, and there payin it :bigthumb:

Some weeks i worked more hours then my dad, and he has a full time job. Anything possible if you work hard enough. (oh yeh the place i work at is being inspected for violating child labor laws, so if they get shut down, no smoking 350Zs for me...)

Well when I turned 16, I bought a new Porsche Boxster "S" MSRP of $58,000.00. So...yea...$30k is very possible. Only thing...INSURANCE will kill ya! The 350Zs are fun cars...I've test driven one, and thinking about buying one now. Not sure yet though...Im NOT swaping my Porsche for one though! Im 19 now...so dunno if the Insurance will let me have 2 sports cars?? (too many tickets)

Whitebread
08-11-2003, 01:03 PM
Your telling me that when you turned 16 your parents bought you a Porsche Boxter??? Jeses man, tell them to send some of that money my way!

Also, most of the people that own 350Zs that I've talked to say that they had or have other cars that the insurance companies consider sports cars and when they bought their Zs, they paid less for insurance than if the Z was their only car. Although tickets will jack up the cost. One guy went up 3oo dollar for 1 ticket eventhough he got like 1 point on his lisence.

I know a kid at work that bought a brand new 2000 celica gt when he was 18. With the audio system, custom wheels, and tinted windows you figure it is about 25g. Well, he just got the car payed off in three years the catch is he's stil living with his parents. sorry just wanted to post that somewhere.

I'm 42, have two kids in college and my Z in the garage. They are sooo jealous! I go and pick my daughter up from college park and her friends flip out over the car. She even said her girl friends think I'm hot!!! Must be the car going to their pretty little heads ;-)

The good thing is that you got age on your side.

Right now im 18 years old and only got recently got my job as a gas attendant this past summer (i'm known to be a big prograsinator) and was only able to afford a used 1998 Dodge Stratus for a first car, which isnt that bad since my parents didnt help me pay for the car. I'm soon going to college to study Business and my job has many oppertunities to move up since its own by a big corporation " which will have a corperate executive job open to me. I hope to have a 350Z by my early to mid 20's

My advice is hard work and limited spending will help you get the Z, plus in your case help from your parents

Where do you kids that are 13 get the kind of money to be torn between three cars that are 25k-35k+ I had to bust my ass to get the money for my Grand National. I started savin when I was 13 and got enough money to put down a nice down payment when I was 19. My first car was a 1980 ford f-250 extended cab 4x4. I bought it for 300 bucks and got it running myself. I was not pretty but it was mine and I worked for it... My parents had nothing to do with it. Go work for your ride and you will appericate it alot more.
