need help with swap VG30t in a 89 240sx

i have a VG30T engine out of a 84 300zx. it is a 6 cylinder and the 240 is a 4 cyl. will the trannys hook up or will i need a new one and do i need a new computer?

you will need to use the 300zx cpu

you'll probably need a new tranny too

I thought the vg30 and ka24 used the same tranny, excluding the bell housing.

well do more research go to www.z31.com and they will have ALOT about the VG30 from the 84-89 300ZX.

I don't know exactly if the early 300zx's had the same transmission, I could be wrong.

In any event, going with a non turbo 88 bellhousing and your 240sx transmission should make something work.

Look at your transmission where the case halves meet with the 300zx and see if it resembles your 240sx transmission in bolt pattern and rough size... if it does it probably matches and works. pay particular attention to the hump behind the center support, what the case halves bolt too.... if its the same transmission with different bellhousings, as I know later z31's have.. then the tail housing sections will look exactly like each other in size and shape.

I might have a 88 non turbo bellhousing from a 300zx for sale. It will mate any 240sx transmission to the VG30's bellhousing bolt pattern.

The ka tranny should bolt right up. It's the same tranny as the old Napz, the VG, and the KA. I'm pretty sure ALL OF THEM.

And it's just like any other swap, you will need the ecu. (not a new one, just a z31 turbo ecu)

Huh, I know that the Nap-Z and the KA's had the same bell-housing (did the swaps myself) I was 99% positive that the truck ka and vg used the same bell housing as well. Maybe it's different for the Z's VG

yeah I'll try to get some pics and show the bellhousings, the Z bellhousing is like a 88 or 87 non turbo I believe... I have quite a few 240sx transmissions around.

I got some clarification on this. The tranny's are supposed to bolt up, however all of the 4 cylinders are slanted slightly. So it will throw off some of the other alignments slightly.
