15.0 @ 92.4 mph

For those that care my car ran a 15.0 @ 92 mph tonight at the creek.

First run I spun heaps, missed two gears and hit the (low) rev limiter in every gear. I wanted to crawl under a rock. 16.5 @ 90.

Second run I walked off the line and mashed it and ran 15.5 @ 91.

Third run was close to as good as it's gonna get with 185/60 x 14 Olympic Javelins. 15.0 @ 92.

Fourth run tried big revs and riding the clutch (OUCH). 15.1 @ 92.

I'm happy with the MPH but I really thought that it would pull a 14 (which it should once I get it out of limp mode)

Nice times even so, but they certainly don't seem right given the power to weight. I guess suspension tuning might help your launches a bit - what reaction time were you running?

Still, I got smoked by two VTiR integras tonight (oh the shame of it) - I seem to have a bad dead zone at 4000 rpm in first and second - I'm just not spinning up to redline fast enough (not to mention the fact that both 'tegs were upshifting when I still had 2000 rpm to play with. Anyone want to bet that my cat is clogging the exhaust (it's original). I'm guessing I'm not getting the power fast enough.

Interestingly, against a stock VTiR EK Civic, it came off the line faster and held it out. The VTiR lights were just behind my doors and it would nudge ahead a bit on the upchange until I would change.

To answer some interesting questions, yes an SiR will do 185 in 4th just under redline - unfortunately, it does exactly the same in 5th at about 5500 and no more.

Add to my woes a back end that continually wanted to break loose on a twisty road and I'm going to be spending a little bit of time under car checking the rear sway - something was clunking around under there.

Might do a writeup in a different thread :)

225 on a slight uphill gradient for me.

i remember taking it down the big dipper before and getting it well off the dial. next time... next time.

on the way home i had some runs with my friends astra sri (he just got a new rear muffler put on) still managed to smoke him quite badly. he thinks that i should be able to beat our friends clio sport. that will be interesting.

Raceing and Astra SRi is just cruel!!! poor Holden owner.

anyway, B16a4me it sounds like your low limiter and ECU problems were really holding you back.

I woudl have expected times on the mid 14s.
Theres a European SiR who posted his time in the 4g forums. with exhasut and intake (but only 150hp stock) he ran a 14.9
Considering the factory times for those cars is a about a 15.2 or something then its totaly believeable.

And Setanta tell me what you do to replace the cat, I need to do mine as well. :)

That's what I'm thinking - but I don't need the defect if it ever came to it :p

Moppie - I 'm looking at a high flow cat - will let you know when I've researched it :)

ofcourse you know lang got a bad start too :p

I got up to 225km too, until we all started slowing down. There was still quite a bit left in the car though.

Could be worse pete...atleast you weren't limping home with exhaust problems like I was :(

gee...it lasted a whole week

sigh - not making excuses, but too many times last night I bounced off the rev limiter :( I know Lang spun up, I did too but backed off to get traction (that was my 3rd run for the night and I was starting to get a feel for the launches). The SiR and VTiR are pretty damn close all the way - that doesn't worry me at all - they're both Civics :p

One thing I did realise this morning, is that in order to realy get speed out of a car, you have to put the foot to the floor after every gearchange, not ease it down... whoops :p I only mashed it against Lang. Still, the 'tegs have the zip to redline and that extra torque to make the difference. Nice runs people :)

Anyway, I have a feeling the SiR has 220kms in it - but being JDM, you put your foot to the floor in 5th at 5-6000 rpm and it goes nowhere - hello mr speed limiter :( Strangely, Lang said she couldn't get the VTiR to break that either and the VTiRs don't have the limiter - weird.

I'm just glad the exhaust lasted you home - didn't sound too good when I listened to it from next to you. Hopefully it's a cheap fix :)

I knew I shouldn't have run it when it wasn't running right. I'm getting the same response everywhere "Ah, that's shit you should at least be running 14's" hahaha.

The problem isn't the 3 Kw I'm probably missing up top, it's the fact that instead of dropping to (say) 5800 on the shift (where I have about 75Kw) I drop to 4800(where I only have 60Kw). That happens on every change!!

Also when going through the traps I have to shift into 5th as I am tagging the rev limiter where if I had my extra 1000 I could stay in 4th.

I was hanging to race it and now I've got a PB to beat. :D

PS. You can have a 10 second reaction time and it won't affect your times as your time doesn't start until after the car breaks the start beam.

Exactly now you've got some practice and some Idea of how the car launches you can get it sorted, and head out go a full 0.5 sec faster.
or more. :D

Ah - didn't know if you were running the traps or against others (haven't paid much attention to what's been happening at the Creek).

Well, I spent the day redoing my entire wiring and guess what? Open circiut on the TDC + wire. After redoing the wiring it fired up straight away instead of the usual 3 to 4 seconds of cranking. I have to go to work so I haven't had a chance to see if it codes but I think it's fixed, WAHOOO!!!

I have to work 84 hours this coming week so I won't have a chance to test it but it's lookin good.

Moppie, will it go into limp just from a VSS code cause that's the only one I'm gonna be left with?

Probably run it up on the Croydon Dyno before I risk another trip to the Creek.

PS: Spunky, what's the goss on Quick Fit (PM if necesssary)

From what Iv heard from the guys doing swaps in the states it wont run in limp mode, but it will throw a code. The best reason to get it sorted however is so you can let the ECU work the VTEC. It will so awsome things to the Torque curve on a dyno, and it will feel better on the road and track.

I cant believe you havnt got it to 8,200rpm yet. Damn mate are you in for and awsome ride! :smoker2: :frog:

Well driving it to and from work revealed that it's still coding the VSS but it seems to be revving out more. I'll rig up the tacho from the front cut to check to see if I'm getting the full 8000 revs.

Only spun it out once and I don't know if it turned the tyres or the clutch slipped but something wasn't right. Oh well when I recover from working I'll look into it.

Talking of standing 1/4's I might as well post mine from about 2 weeks ago.

For those who dont know Ive got an SiR Del Sol

1st run:
[email protected]

2nd run:
[email protected]

3rd run:
[email protected] (missed 4th and crossed the line in neutral)

4th run:
Bet a TX3 turbo on DYO and was alot more confident about the time but didnt get the timeslip.

So overall I had some very dissapointing times and as those faring trap speeds show alot of it was driver error :S

Ah well first time on the strip gotta start somewhere, itll be my last run with this car though, time for a change
