IACV Problem

welp i took the throttle body of my moms 97 civic dx with a d16y7 today to clean it up because she has had an unusualy high idle which was not correctable by adjusting the screw. i cleaned all the parts out with throttle body cleaner and assembled it all back together again and started the car and now the idle surges drops surges drops surges drops and so on. its hunting for an idle basically and cant find one. i am almost absolutly sure its the idle air control valve but wanted to see what other people thought before i bought a 200$ part. i have three sensors to guess and they are all expensive as hell, IACV, MAP sensor, and throttle position sensor. tell me what YOU think.

ahh, my mom's 1995 does the same thing where it searches for an idle

try clearing the ECU first.
if that dont work, ensure the throttlebody gasket is on properly and isnt leaking.
make sure all vacuum lines are attached properly. vacuum leaks in the throttlebody and plenum causes improper air metering, which makes the idle "roam" up and down.

why don't you check the IACV and make sure it is working properly before you replace it?
all you do is rev the car to 3000 rpm till the cooling fan turns on, then go back to idle and disconnect the IACV connector, the RPM should drop. if it doesn't you would probably need to replace it.

problem fixed.
when i reintalled the gasket i matched it to the intake plenum, BAD IDEA cause i put it on upside down and it was restricting the flow of air to both the map sensor the IACV exit port. match your gaskets to the item with the most holes in it people!!!
christ i was sitting there looking at it and im like "wait a second, the map sensor is in back, why is the inlet hole on the opposite side? and why is the outlet port for the IACV towrds the passenger side and not the drivers side of the throttle body?" then im like "sonofafuckingbitchinmutherfukingcocksuker i put the sonofafuckingbitchinmutherfukingcocksuking gasket on upside down in reverse"
1.)so lesson is put your gaskets on right cause if it was a head gasket that would have sucked dick.
2. dont abuse pain pills and expect to work on a car in any manner that would be productive
3. all things being the same the most simple answer must be true.
4. if your car ever does this the map sensor or iacv ports are probably clogged up with shit or going bad
well that concludes it, time to go drink and work on my car. hehehehe

trouble: when speed drops to 19mph, my rpm would just jump or add another 500rpm...will clean and replace all the gasket around the throttle body. i new here guys :eek:
