Confound it; August 2nd, 12:20pm... I was sincerely about to start a new thread and announce a HUGE welcome on 8/1 to all the SCC readers out there about AF, but it looks like Grandmaster Igor has beat me to it--not that I could ever have emulated his undying words.
In any case, I long for AF's greatness in the service it provides, and hope that all newcomers remain unshy and utilize this tool, much like any favorite socket wrench or phonebook-sized service manual as it has assisted me and many others.

I want to start by saying this site is excellent and has been a very useful tool in helping me decide on a car to buy. This is my first post, I usually only use this site for the information available.
I read SCC and other magizines such as Import Tuner, Hot Compacts & Imports, and Turbo & High-Tech Performance and I rarely find articles on th Maxima. :(
I just want to say THANK YOU for efforts in making a site like this to help make information available about cars that do not get the spotlight they deserve in magizines.

We don't take snowboarders as moderators.. that's in AF policy :p
Well, currently, I think we have enough mods... but due to AF's tremendous growth, soon we won't... so try emailing me sometime in the future, along with a $100 payment thru paypal to automotiveforums.com:smoka:

Forgive me for going off topic here, but I just had a quick thought about the two comparable snowborne activities:
Snowboarding is downright fun primarily due to its highly active movements, and aerial superiority. But we are all automotive enthusiasts here, and therefore we cherish speed. I think that riding on skis allows a person to attain incredible velocities, much more than on a snowboard. Your legs replicate a car's suspension. Your torso is the equivalent of active aerodynamics. If you are a no-holds-barred speed demon, then try testing your quickness on skis. I can stay standing much longer on the skis, than on the board. Of course, you will probably fall at some point, and my personal record ended with heavy internal bleeding and a VERY close shave with head injuries. Then you won't be able to participate on AF. OK just forget everything I just said. :bloated:

i feel that the benefits of being a "slow" snowboarder are that you don't have to wait in the lines that often, and if you just stay in the board parks all day then you have absolutely no lines, and we just look cooler! anyone else hate moguls?

What is about the way one "looks" that has permeated the mountains? I have always thought that riding the slopes was about reaching the feel of freedom which is so bound down by the forces of nature's gravity, and the design of the human body. Snowboarding allows one to move in a way never thought possible before, and skiing has provided the sensation of traveling at astonishing speeds without the aid of unnatural propulsion. But the mountains are plagued with too many poseurs with "cool" clothing and gear, and far too much unnecessary attitude. Oh well, these are the days of our time.

I thought it was all about learning that ice is hard and how not to break your legs.

what i'm saying is that i get the same sensation, and there is nothing in the world like it, but i do that while looking good. i'm am not one of those people that sped months shopping for next seasons apparel then falls on their asses when they hit the slopes, i'm good at boarding, but me and my friends just chuckle when we see that old skiier chick with the matching spandex ski bunny outfit. but i have seen some cool looking skiers too, so maybe the skiers are the superficial ones, eh!

Spandex is aerodynamic! Ha ha, I guess attitude differs from person to person.
Once again, pardon me for getting off topic with the above posts. There is one thing about AF that keeps me coming back for more. Note that in the descriptions of other sites in SCC's Webside column (where AF is featured), Marc Strengel states how "content is somewhat lacking" and "in terms of content, it's not exactly stretching the seams". Of course, with the natural layout of AF, material is not an issue and that ends up being beneficial for the users. With so much to talk about, I can never get bored of this place. I'm sorry to say that I cannot help but look with anything more than pity upon the 'other' various sites out there, designed to worship the same old cars, over and over again. I'm glad that my new home covers so many different aspects of the automotive empire, reminding people to stay open-minded about technology and different ideals.

hey snowboarder what's your set up? what can you do?
I got an M3 151 board, Burton CFX bindings and DC premier boots
i hate step-ins, i'll probably never stop using strap bindings, they're old fashioned but i think they feel way better
I'm a pretty good boarder.... i can pull cork 540s, and i've been playin around with inverted tricks lately (when there was snow), i can say it fuckin killlllls landing on your head!! but i can land backflips pretty easily now
But best place i've been snowboarding is Whistler/Blackcomb, it's so good, any break in the trees you just go there and fresh POW! easy ta find, plus the cliffs and stuff, oh man it's heaven

I don't know but I board too. I have a 2000 Burton Floater with Burton Moto SI Boots and SI Step ins. You're right about step-ins Gan$tarr there too damn hard to work when thier frozen and they constantly "Readjust" themselves and I won't even get into what happens when snow gets in the boots. I am still not great but I am trying more next year, It will be my 3rd year and now that I have a friend to go with ,I'll be doing inverted tricks ( I can't spin well but I can do a 360) and I like the parks, there a good selection of hills around here and in Quebec (About 9-11 Hills) so I get out a fair bit. Any advice on new bindings or how to do inverted tricks? I don't know many really good people.

Sounds great, I've been to Tremblant before. It's a good hill. I was there in the summer though, I'm betting it's bigger in the winter. I might go this year.
