want is this "CRANKWALK?"

I have never heard of crankwalk. Is it the same thing a crank end-play. I am trying to buy a '97 gs-t w/auto. will this be a factor on this car. Also please read my other posts, titled "Need help finding correct price"

Crank walk is when the crank shaft "Walks" out of alignment and knocks out the crank angle sensor. The crank angle sensor is broken so the whole ECU shuts down. Pretty much, it means that engine will never run again. All 2Gs are potential crankwalk candidates except the early 95s (as in built in mid 94) that still have the 1G engine in it. The reason for crankwalk is undetermined, however the main causes seem to be the bearings and the sleeve. As of now, there are no proven fixes except putting a 1G or JDM engine in. (a figure or less than .001% of 1Gs have gotten crankwalk) Getting a large clutch like an ACT 2600 can increase your chances of getting the walk, and so can hard driving obviously. However, crankwalk is still rare even in the 2Gs. Make sure you get the longest warranty that you can get. My friend got crankwalk and his short block and labor cost over $5k, but luckily he was under warranty. Let me know if you need anything else.

ummm. From my experience...the 95' year is more prone to Crankwalk than any other year. The 94-95 models both have 7bolt shortblock. Some 1g's walk too, but not enough to make a big deal out of...

The reason that the early 95 models don't walk is because they were the last cars actually built in Normal Illinois by Diamond Star Motors. The plant was shut down and mitsu took up the job of building the eclipses, and that is when the engines began to walk, not because they were seven bolt cranks. I believe they switched to seven bolt in the 93s.

Well, if you think about the crank shaft, it is connected to everything south of the head. It is connected to the rods, the pistons, the tranny, flywheel, and all that good stuff. In the 4G63, there is a crank angle sensor, which senses crankshaft position, and in turn, the position of every moving piece in the block. There is also a cam angle sensor, which senses cam position and in turn, the position of everything in the head. The ECU (computer) reads both of these sensors and adjusts timing etc. so that the car runs optimumly. I hope I made it clearer.

If I'm not mistaken, the 97+ year turbo dsm's arent known to have crankwalk like the 95-96 models....
