I would like to put a tachometer into my Civic DX. Do I need to change the distributor? What about wiring?

Thanks

take a few minutes and think. You can go with a 5inch Autometer Tach but especially if you are looking to build a sleeper a big 5inch tach with shift light gives it away. I think the 5inch tachs just fit so out of place and such....look into EX or Si gague clusters and if u really wanna go extreme do GSR or Type R :)

And Joey, just what makes you think he was talking about a 5" AutoMeter Tach? Perhaps he was talking about putting an EX or Si guage cluster into his DX. Hey pal, you jump to conclusions, I take you down midstride. =)

Guys, thanks hor your comments, but where do I connect the Tach? Does the DX has the wiring stuff in place for it?

.
Sweetcraz, I was not sure about going with a 5", but what do you mean by "5inch tachs just fit so out of place and such", fit where? Because my only problem with the 5" is that it could attract undesirable attention.

what year is yours? if it's a 92-95 dx then heres what you do....

1. take out your guage cluster and look on the back. on the right side there is a harness. take that out.

2. splice the green wire(coil wire) to the blue wire on the harness.

3.splice the red wire(power wire) to the yellow and black wire.

4. splice the white wire(light wire) to the red and black wire.(i think that is the color but it's the red wire that's closest to the middle of the harness)

5. for the back wire(ground wire) find a good ground for it.

that's it and hope it helps. i looked all over for instructions on how to do it and i couldn't find any. i finally got the helms and did it.

under the hood next to your distributor there is a blue wire if you wanna wire it that way thats the one you use as the coil wire you cant connect it to the coil it wont work so you hook it to the blue wire the one that runs next to the black and yellow one.

if you were looking at the back of the gauge cluster where the harnesses are then it's the right grey harness

It'll be the big gray one on the LEFT side of the cluster if you pull it straight out, and flip it down, that's how it is in my 6th gen ('00) Civic at least, and I would think it should be the same or similar in 5th gens such as your '93.

nope it's the right side on the 5th gen and the top right on the 6th gen see....... http://www.home.mpinet.net/t-hero/Tach!!.htm

Um, from the back, like that picture, it's top right, yes. But from the front, it's left.

hey guys, i dont usually reply to forums, i just browse, but since i just put a 3 3/8'' tach in my 98 dx coupe, i figure i add in my 2 cents....

under the hood, near the hinge on the drivers side, there's a blue wire hanging that is capped off, put ur tach wire on it, then i ran the other wires to simple places, power to battery, ground to a ground, and the tach's light wire to my fog light switch. it came out really good, hope this helps ya out.

I'm assuming this also works for a 96 cx. Also when I sell the car is this considered odometer fraud? Can I just change the cluster mileage to my old one?

95civicman - SY2KCivic said, if you pull the cluster out and flip it STRAIGHT down, it's on the LEFT. You're arguing a null point - from your POV, it's right, but if you do it from his POV, it's left.

oh i wasn't arguing anything. it was just a misunderstanding.
