HYBRIDS/SWAPPERS! I need your knowledge!

I own a 98' EX I have ripped all my aftermarket parts off in order to sell them and to make money so that I may purchase a B18c1 Engine. I was considering going with a b16a2, but then i would just be making my car an SI. I might as well trade my car in for a new one. So here I begging for cash and selling my soul for the engine. I need to know from you hybrid owners what to expect when it comes time for the swap. I've read that i can use all the existing motor mounts, true or false? Also when it comes time will the GSR transmission bolt right up or do i need to do custom fabrication? Finally when I goto do the wiring, will i need to remove the old wiring (i already know I need to change the ECU) because there are different plugs and what not, or can i use the old wiring so i don't need to run new shat. Thanks for your help, and any horror stories or good stories will help out a lot. Feel free to IM me or to E-mail me with your stories. One last thing, should i expect to be able to beat my friends 96' integra GSR?
Thanks boys

Hi there! You're off to an interesting adventure, but it will definitely pay off. If everything turns out ok, you should be able to show this to your GSR friends:flipa: HEHEHE
Well, right now I'm trying to do a b16 swap into my 97civicEX. Is the b18 your thinking of 94-95 96-98 99-00? Let me know and I'll tell you all I have learned the past 4months of research. I hope you don't turn out like me :bloated: Hehehehe... Let me know

when we did a b16 into a 5th gen hatch we used all the mounts off the engine you get except the front drivers mounts should be from a civic si. im almost absolutly sure this is what applies to a 6th gen also although ive never put a b series into a 6th gen. the wiring will be almost identical if you swap an obd2 motor into your car but if you swap an obd1 engine and you need to either get the harness for the engine or use your current harness and re pin the plugs to mate up to the ecu but that is a royal pain in the ass. the tranny bolts right up, no fabrication needed at all. and you will rape your friends gsr.

Thanks a lot guys you rule! 97' Civic, I would like to get an engine as close to my year as possible. I will probably end up with something like a 95-98' year. As far as OBD1 and OBD2, I know my engine ecu is OBD2 but what year does OBD2 start for Acuras? So you guys think this will be a cool swap? Also one last thing, where can I get that SI mount for the swap?
thanks guys

Hey, try to get an engine that is between the years 96-98. Newer or older engines will need modifications. Let me know what engine you get and I'll help you out if I can. As for the SI mounts, I purchased them from a nearby honda parts shop. It's the easiest way to go, unless you are lucky to run in on a totaled SI. Let me know how i goes...

OK, I have read just about every freakin web page and book about hybrids and swaps. From what i understand, I will be needing like 2-3 mounts for the tranny and the block. Now, by not having AC, will that really make the strain on my engine less (equaling a small increase in hp). When i get underway with this I will take photos so i can document it. I guess I am lucky in that I have a 98' EX which is already wired for just about everything (including vtec and O2 sensors). Life will be good in a couple of months. One little side not, for graduation my dad might be getting me a ZEX nitrous kit, along with the second bottle and remote bottle openers! Now wouldn't that be chill.
Thanks guys, if you have any more ideas, or opinions or help please post or e-mail me.

why not get an ls engine and go turbo? :) ls is cheaper than the gsr engine and alot easier to find. im thinking about doing that later with my civ.

LS Engine? Interesting theory. They do have a strong bottom end, but I would like to try and keep it as all motor as possible. The most "out there" piece I am going to add is probably going to be a ZEX Nitrous kit. But we will see. If anyone has a source for a GSR engine please tell me, everyone is quoting me nearly $4500 for the damn thing.

Hey, try search engines on the net, you can find a lot of quotes there. You can also look in performance mags or ask at your nearest performance shop, this should get you started. Remember, cheaper is not always better. As for NOS, it's pretty good for the price, but be careful, because I've seen people blow their engines  The LS turbo idea is very good for the price and it's the block for turbo. But then again, you have to take good care of turbocharged cars. I've heard that if you can afford a vortech supercharger, you'll get your moneys worth, but we're talking about big$$$$$$$$ So, it's really up to your financial status and your need for speed. Also, if you want natural, then forget about turbo, superchargers, and NOS, they require different setups in your engine. Your call....

Well it seems as though JDM engines online is going to be my best bet. I am still waiting to hear back from them on their availability. I just sold my angel paintball gun, given up everything I own basicaly just to get this project rolling. So now I'll be up over 2 grand in less than 2 weeks. Not bad. I'm going to try selling myself on the street soon. HEY if anybody knows of a web site where I can find the transmission mount and the SI mount please let me know. One last couple of questions: When I goto by an intake, do I ask for an Acura integra GSR intake? Same goes for a DC short shifter and headers. Thanks Guys!\

I'm pretty sure everything has to be GSR. If you buy the engine from an engine shop, they can probably answer most of your questions, although the more you ask, the better  Be careful when buying the intake, CAI (cold air intake) won't fit unless you can customize it...

anything you buy for the engine (ie header, intake, anything) will have to be for the GSR engine. you may need to modify the intake to make it fit.

have you tried www.sohfast.com or www.takakaira.com they have some pretty good stuff. there is also another website that is good for motors. http://www.hondamotorsonline.com/

well, what you putting the head onto??? you said you had a D16Y8 and fried it, and then bought CTR pisonts/cams/rods and a B17a crank and a GSR head. the reason I wanna know what block is when i started reding this it made me thikn that you were goign to try and put this on your D16 block, which aint gonna happen, but if you bought a B18C1/5 swap or B16A/B swap then you already have a vtec head. so either you found a shortblock from a b16a/b 18c1/5 or got a b18a/b swap. cuz if you are putting all your parts on your D16 block you got bigger problems than the OBD2 deal.

anyways clear this up for me and i could probably help out a bit more.

just read your screenname and now I think i get it, your gonna build a LSVTEC. anyways, I am not sure what all sensors are different between OBD1 and 2, but if you could find/borrow or sell anything for a bit more money, get the skunk 2 harness that lest you use the different OBD system that what you got under the hood.

I know when i put a OBD0 into a OBD1 car all that i had to worry about was the CAS. used my b20 dist and ended up fixing the problem for free.
