Thanks everyone for all your nice comments! :D

It’s a 1996 model and is in fabulous condition, it’s been really well taken care of and has lots of wonderful little additions like an 18 stacker CD!! :D :D :D :D :D

Anyone coming to Auckland is welcome to come for a spin (and a spin might be highly likely in the wet, being a rear wheel drive with a fair bit of power! :p )

They are not illegal as MotoRex brings them in. You will just pay dearly for them.

FTO as I have said before nice ride and glad to see you are finally out of that catfish looking FTO and into a real car :D

What's the exact name of this Skyline and the difference between the other 96 Skylines that I see around. Most from 96 have this ugly dark thing in between each pair of back lights. I'm ridiculously picky (I want to design cars, not much chance of that in NZ). I don't know what it is I haven't seen one in person (bad choice of words unless you're the sort of person that names your car). Your's doesn't have it, and I've had my eye one that model (though I think the R34s look way cooler, but I would be very lucky to find one in my price range when I go to buy a car.) Does yours have the two round lower lights (one the indicator) on each side, the fat white strip containing the indicator, or the very thin strip nearer the middle of each side?

This is why I want some good web resource, I don't know what to call all the Skylines I see on the NZ car sales websites, I only know what they look like. Gonthrax's link in the last thread didn't work.

Is it manual or auto, and turbo? Does the fact that Skylines come in sedan verseion mean the coupes have a roomy back seat (for a sports coupe) or not? Sorry if I'm full of questions.

Those round indicators on some look really weird, they're huge, it's like "Look at me, I'm a Skyline I'm going this way, so move it or lose it bitch".

I'm counting down the days untill my learners period expires. Two months, 16 days. The problem with being unlicenced (other than the cops) is that you can't insure a car, and I'm not going to spend $15,000 and risk it. As soon as my time's up I'm going for my restricted in my brothers car, and then it's shopping time! There's another Kiwi on here that hasn't bothered yet as well isn't there?

At the moment my choices are r34 first (not likely unless I save a bit more and find a dirt cheap one), the "catfish" second, r33 (like yours) third. I think an FTO could look quite good done up to look like a catfish, I probably just made you shudder.

Looks good!

Aren't Skylines the fastest car available (other than Ferarri's & Lambos)?

My car is an R33 GTS25t Series II coupe. It’s a 2.5L turbo 2 door and it is an auto. The coupes still have quite a bit of room in the back and you could easily fit 2 people in the back seats. The main difference between the series I and series II is the front (which I don't have any pics of, although if you go to our website http://moondog.250x.com there are lots of pics of my husband's R33 Series II which is exactly the same as mine apart from colour and his is a manual.

The rear lights on the R33s are significantly different in the 2 doors than they are in the 4 doors. That is probably what you are seeing when you talk about the strip containing the indicator. I prefer the look of the coupe lights to those on the 4 doors, but that’s just personal preference.

If you are wanting some really good info on Skylines I suggest you go to www.skylinesdownunder.co.nz website as there is a lot of info on there.

I was meaning the front lights when talking about the indcators. Your husband's car is like I was meaning with the really big round indicators. Is yours the same? The other type I see most is http://www.autobase.co.nz/img/9/8/9855_1.jpg. I think this looks cooler on the front, but if these ones come with the strip between the back lights, I don't want that.

I'll most likely get an FTO. I want a white one, my brother says white cars rust easier than other colours because they don't attract the heat to dry them off like darker colours. Is there much truth to that anyone? Is there anything that can be easily done to reduce any greater change a white car would have of rusting, is applicable.

White would look cool if the car was to be lit up, and that's what I plan to to if legal. Around the mouth (well the car was designed with facial features, have you seen the concept sketches?), and sides, for a start. I'm not one of those "must modify my car" types, I just think a subtle glow at night would be tasteful.

I can’t seem to get that link you posted to display. Yes, my car is identical to my husband’s with the same round lights at the front. We both prefer that to the plain look of the series 1.

The only differences between the series 1 and series 2 rear is that where the word “Skyline” is printed, on the series 1 it is in a clear plastic strip and in the series 2 it is the colour of the car. Also the series 1 have a camel hump shaped spoiler whereas the series 2 has the squarer one.

I have only one favour to beg of you if you get an FTO. Please, please, please don't rice it up! It is such a wonderful, cool looking car to start with and doesn’t need anything extra to be added. It just spoils it. But hey I guess that’s just my opinion. :)

Re: the link; it was the accidental . on the end of the URL. Here:

http://www.autobase.co.nz/img/9/8/9855_1.jpg

I definetely wouldn't rice up the FTO. If it put lights on it, they would be almost (if not totally) hidden. I haven't seen them, but I've heard they have these rods at the Warehouse you can use. I was looking through this American import magazine my brother bought back from Canada and there was an ad for some lighting product. You couldn't see the actual lights on the car, just a blue glow around the front grill, and other assorted holes, it looked incredibly cool. It was way too tasteful to be rice. Otherwise, I don't think even a sticker would grace my car.

Have you seen the concept sketches I was talking about (note the full face on it, even down to the nose):

http://www.zentac.force9.co.uk/concept/images/sketchfront.jpg
http://www.zentac.force9.co.uk/concept/images/sketchheadon.jpg

The rest at:

http://www.zentac.force9.co.uk/concept/index.html

It's amazing to think that any half-arsed picture you could come up with, someone could turn it into a car, even if it has to diverge somewhat from the original design.

The pic you posted is a series 2 sedan. That's why the front lights look different. The two are interchangeable and you could put a sedan front on a coupe or vice versa depending on which look you prefer.
