Bumper Mods....getting painted this week...(Photos...long)

So I finally made time to get to my bumper after reciveing the WW front lip from Luke (www.digitalracer.com) a month ago. Before sending it off to paint, along with the spoiler, here are some photos showing the mods before painting.

First, the lip didnt fit right, dont know if anyone else had this problem or Im just being anal about it...the first photo shows the lip partially installed, but it was short by about 1/4" on each side, I could muscle it to fit but it just didnt look right. So after trimming some plastic away, out came the bondo, building up in layers and shaping to fit, I got it to blend seamlessly with the front curve. Shaved the liscence plate holes as well

I also decided to hack out parts of the center section, as seen in the photo. After that I filled the side reflectors. This is a big hole and was too big to just fill it. I took the reflectors and sanded them down in thickness, cut some cross hatches for the filler to hold better and used them as plugs. I took off the light housing, complete, since I didnt need the light anymore. If anyone needs these Ive got them, free to a good home.

The second photo shows the thickness difference and the lack of the light. You can see the contour of the bumper with the lip here. I also filled in all those little ridges where the fog lights go, just to make a cleaner look, as well as the space between the lip and the bumper. That little space the adhesive strip created just got to me...

Lastly, I noticed the mounting bracket was bent, so Ill be fabing some new ones before I get it back. This happened after I hit a re-tread off a semi on the highway....

Ill post the finised, installed, photos later on this week...

Looks good :) - but the front lip is meant to stick out a little bit. It should have been a perfect fit, I can't see why they would 'screw' up.

You sure you don't run a body shop Yah? :)

Funny you say that, Jake the local body/paint shop owner, offered me a job this morning when he saw what I did with the bumper! I was sorry I had to decline his offer...It should be done on Wednesday...woo hoo

I guess it depends on how much time you want to put into it. The lip comes with an adhesive strip along the entire length of it. Its also recomended to use a couple of screws on the center section, this seems to be the only place for that. Some just go with that and it looks good.

I put about 10 hours into the whole bumper, about 5 of that was just getting the lip to fit and look the way I wanted it to. A lot of waiting for the bondo to set up and a lot of sanding to get it right.

Oh yeah for those of you wondering, there is another bondo product called "Bondo Ultimate" really nice to work with. I found it at Wal-Mart but it was hidden...

How do you take off our front bumper???? I saw in the pictures that there are two prong thingies at the bottom and some fasteners along the top. Where do you start? :bloated:

Here you go, and thanks to Bo-ogie for the help too...:flash:

This is for the P11...
- There are three plastic retainer pin thingys in front on top of the bumper as you lift up the hood. Pretty easy to take out, just lift the center section with a flathead and pull out the rest of the piece....you should loosen these but take them off last.
- There are 3 - 10mm bolts on each side of the bumper, all three are in the wheel well area. Two of them are on the bottom holding the plastic wheel well stuff to it. The other one is behind that plastic, where the bumper meets the fender.
- Take off the fogs, if you have them, just pry the trim piece off with a flat head, from the bottom. Remove the fog with a 10mm or big phillips screwdriver, disconnect the light.
- Take off the bumper side reflector with a smaller phillips, disconnect the light.
- Finally, under the bumper in the center of the car, there are 2 - 10mm bolts that mount onto those prong thingies...it takes about 30 min or so...

I think thats about it. Also, if you dont have another car to drive, plan on going ghetto. Right now I have my wheel well plastic taped to my fender to keep it from floping all over the place. I hate it.....:(

This one didnt come with the fiber strands, I havent seen any like that. At least in a normal non-speciality store. If you find some let me know...

Good work!:D

Way to show others how to accomplish thier own mods.
The best place to buy fiber-strand/glass is a plastics manufacturing store.
The store I buy from is called Tap Plastics(www.tapplastics.com)
They specialize in everything from carbon fiber to banners.
Great prices, 15$ will get me a huge container of f-glass at their local store.

That looks really good so far. I have been thinking about getting the WW lip myself. I just scratched up my stock front lip on a pole about two weeks ago and its been on my mind even more. I also painted my reflector the color of my car but filling it in would make it look a lot better. Keep up the good work and I cant wait to see how it all comes out.

Okay so I finally had time to make it to the body shop hoping to pick up my shiny newly painted bumper and spoiler. Well, they havent even started on it. I was PISSED!!! So I told Jake what I thought if his service, and found a new shop to get it done, they promised that it will be done on wednesday. Crossing my fingers...

In the meantime, not planning to have my bumper off this long, the tape finally gave out holding my wheel well plastic up today. Needless to say now I have to replace my liner for BOTH FRONT wheels. Not looking forward to that price....FUCK...thats all I have to say....sorry guys...

I need this like I need a shotgun blast to the face:finger4:
