What exactly is a throwout bearing? What is its function? Is it neccessary to purchase if I decide to purchase an aftermarkter clutch?

a throw out bearing is what connects the clutch fork to the pressure plate. for lack of a better definition. the throw out bearing is what actually pushes against the pressure plate to release the clutch disc. if you get an aftermarket clutch, i definitely recommend getting a new throw out bearing. most likely though, you're clutch kit will come with a new one. if it doesn't though, don't just run down to your local parts store and buy the one they have there. GET OEM!!! when it comes to something that vital to driving your car, you want exactly what the factory recommends. if it's good enough for them to put into millions of other civics, and they're not worried about it going out before warranty expires, then you know you will be ok with the OEM one.
