the list goes on forever and i've been reduced to tears.

i rear ended a friend of mine tonight when he stopped out of nowhere. i am seeking comfort from the community because i am devastated. i was following my friend's jetta, we passed some kids walking in the street... i looked in my left side mirror, looked back, and smack... i hit his back bumper on an angle.

my corner light, right projector headlight, front bumper, right front quarter, and hood are fucking done. i have no money at all. i can't believe this. i get a big fuckin mess 3 days before my birthday. i can't believe this. it looks so bad. my car will never be the same. why did he have to stop. why couldn't i stop? why did i have to hit him and get my shit fucked up. i need to cry.

theres a pair of black skidmarks and a pile of beautiful clear glass in the road.

the only thing this does, is make it almost a need to buy new shit. c/f hood, z3fenders. but i'm broke with a shit job!@~#

j.fuggi

no collision coverage. but, i've done a little browsing. new projectors, new corners, new c/f hood, new z3 fenders and new front bumper just over $1000. adn these arn't OEM so i'd imagine that'd be cheaper then having a body shop rape me. and idea how much i'd cost to paint the mentioned parts?

Hey bro, sorry to hear this. I just looked at the pics. The damage doesn't seem that bad. at least the car is drivable. until you can fix it.

But look at it this way, at least you are not hurt. (physically)

But it's not that bad. I crashed my car last year, bad. I felt like such an idiot after. I bet you felt extra stupid because he was a friend of yours... but I guess I'm not making you feel any better.... but it's not that bad!!!

You DON'T have collision??? And what did you expect to happen if you hit someone?? I'd never have anything other than full coverage for things like this. And dude seriously, that's nothing. Earlier this year I smacked someone head on. Cost over $3000 in damages to hood, fender, bumper, rad support, ect. Get full coverage and work slowly to fix it.

Swonder67

There is a huge difference in rates between full coverage and no collision coverage. especially for a 16 year old kid.

too much liability for the business... and that also wouldn't help damages.

There's also a huge difference in having the insurance company pay for you, and having to total or sell the car as is cause you don't have enough money to fix whatever you get into.

anything i should look under my hood to check if damaged?

kicker1_solo
12-23-2001, 12:30 AM
It's almost your b-day, ask for some expensive presents ;) Or ask everyone that is going to get you a present if they could just give you money. If you explain it to them, I'm sure they would. My brother got almost $2000 for graduating from people, and he didn't even ask for money. So I'm sure you can work your b-day into this somehow. And if you check junk yards, I'm sure you could find what you're looking for, and it will be mass cheaper than anywhere else. I would have to say it would cost about $3-400 to have all of those things painted once you got them on your car. Don't worry about it, so you have a wrecked ugly car for a little while. Who cares? If you get it fixed, and it's still ugly for a little while, who cares? Everything will be fine, if you don't have the money now, do one thing at a time until it's all fixed. It'll work out. :)
Oh yeah, and I voted for under $1000, above is my reasoning.

Not to be mean man. But whoopdie fucking do. My car has over 1700 dollars worth of damages. The reason why its so much. its the left rear panel. So you cant just bolt it on, you have to WELD in a new panel. Lots of labor. or pound out the dents. I have been in 3 accidents in less than a year. I had to pay for all of them (havent done my car yet, too poor) I just live withthe dents. I dont care how people say "your car looks worse than mine" I dont care about sho anyways. All it does it attract thieves. then people say "I hate this, soneone stole my car, i had nice rims, a bodykit etc" Then dont fucking supe up the looks. It just attracts the COPS and THIEVES.

Sorry i dont mean to be mean. i am just saying you dont have it as bad as you think. I simply wont post pics of my car because it looks nasty :) I figure, hey... I run 15's, and I am dented up. They think "some dented up stock civic that runs 18's, i can waste him with my six gen EX" But I dont :) I will eventually fix my dents. But the most sho ill do is rims.

you should also make sure your engine isn't over heating, which will happen if you busted your radiator. After I had my accident, I was like, "gee, why put any more money in my car?" and I stopped for a long while even now, if I see a part I want, I just think of how quickly I could lose it and I don't buy it. lol. Now my car is almost completey back to stock, and I'm thinkin about getting an old Pathfinder or explore. (my accident happened in ice and snow when I couldn't stop or turn and slid right into the car in front of me.

Rice-Rocketeer
12-23-2001, 12:58 AM
Yeah if you want to do it right, you need to completely take apart the front end, get some pictures of everything from every angle and make a shopping list of what you need. Some things to look out for would be the metal crash beam and plastic shock absorbers, foam absorber, frame damage, radiator support and its symetry with the fender edges, fenders, and hood hinges. You're probably not gonna be able to fix all of it yourself.

j.fuggi
12-23-2001, 01:01 AM
notice in my images how high the damage is though? it looks like my car kinda slid under the other car's bumper. at least i hope its not too serious.

kicker1_solo
12-23-2001, 01:05 AM
Honestly, it's not bad at all. You just have some body damage, from what I see it looks like everything in the engine compartment is ok. So you just have the light and a few body pieces. No big deal, hit the junk yards and scrap everything you can find. Even if the things you find have minor problems, get them, it will be a lot cheaper to fix little dings than what you have.

ok well my car has also been dented from a run in with a guardrail for about 2 years now. if you need a whole front end, just go to junkyards and look for non wrecked front ends, they are available. do it like that don't get z3 fenders, those things are ugly and they make your car nasty looking. just save and do it right and you will be thankful. oh and if you pay 250 a month then you need another plan, i payd 203 every 4 months for full coverage and up to 100k for whoever i hit. i would suggest someone else. and get full coverage.

I got in a wreck on Oct 31 (creepy eh?).. some stupid lady changed halfway into my lane (already only going 25mph in a 40) and she said "i saw that you were moving faster than me so i hit my breaks".. bia bia!!! well, i hit her going aobut 30 mph faster than her.. my hood, bumper, fender headlights were totalled. 3k worth of parts and labor later.. things still aren't 100% (although i have made the bst of it.) Check for damage behind the headlight and to see if any of that crap got bent up. right behind the headlight there are a lot of little pieces of metal that hold that crap together.. if none of that got bent up (doesn't look like it did from the picture). shouldn't be too bad to fix. go ahead and snag a CF hood.. save money in the end by not painting it. I'd suggest staying away from aftermarket fenders if possible because they are a huge pain in the butt to fit (and therefore cost more money to have installed unless you're fixing it yourself. If you lived in the DFW area i know someone who'd fix you up cheap.. g'luck getting fixed bud.. and remember, this will pass and life will be good :)

When i got in my wreck and busted my fender i went with soem fiberglass z3 fenders. I must admit that they do look very nice, however i would also like to bring a couple of downsides to your attention...
z3 fenders are aftermarket parts. They rarely fit nice w/o some changes.. most of the time people charge extra to install them, and if you are installing them they are pretty unforgiving if you mess up.
Also you must be sure the lines of the car line up nice.. i've seen some z3 fenders look like crap because the lines of the car were aobut .5" off.. makes a -huge- diff to how the car looks, imo. Also my fender was a little wider at the bottom than factory which made fitting aftermarket sideskirts a less than pleasureable task.
If you don't mind those little potenital problems, z3 fenders are d0pe :)

Ahhh... It hurts to see beat up civics
Get the engine checked by a mechanic ...damage aint permanent...at most costly (for a part time worker)
Drive it around and show off your battlescars...people will think ur a crazy driver and be intimidated...until you save up money for a fix

Good Luck!

so far i ordered my new headlights and euro clear corners w/bulbs, and my top secret front bumper. i might be able to get a used honda hood for $50 so i'll do that instead of c/f for now because i need $400 tires for the rims i just got. fenders.. i think i'm gonna go with stock fenders. honda wants over $100 for a fender so it looks like i'll head to the junkyard.

now i just need to find a REPUTABLE bodyshop that i can trust in leaving my car for fixing. i have to order some internal parts too. i think that beam that the headlight mounts to and some other things like, the thing the corner mounts to also.

you should have spent your $$ on go-fast items instead of "make my car look fast" items (rice). Intakes, Headers, Real Exhausts (not gay tips), turbos, ignitions, etc.. those things don't break when you get in a fender bender.

*me hates rice*

Check the radiator and coolant overflow tanks, and also pull the bumper and look in the drivers side right in front of the tire, that's where the windshield wiper fluid tank is hidden. It might have come loose or cracked in the accident. Also if you want to be really sure, take it to have an alignment checked, if it hasn't changed you might not have any unibody damage (hopefully you don't have any anyhow, it doesn't look too bad).

Now that I look at it again, the drivers side didn't look like it got touched, but check the radiator though, it might have taken a hit, just find a shop to run a coolant system compression test.

Oh yeah, sorry for being a dick in that last message, it looked like you had clear corners on it. If you DID have clear corners, then you should have the stock ones laying around, go get 'em and put them back on.

good damn news! i've put together roughly $1500 from the past week or so of working . so i'm now planning the following:

$400 yokohama parada tires to go with the tenzo-r av7 17" rims sitting in my room
$300 (estimated) for my zenith 2 front bumper if sparq makes a few calls for me as he said he'd do when he returns from vacation on jan 6th
$25-$100 new fender possibly from ebay or a junkyard to save cash.
(my head and corner lights + bulbs are already paid for that came to about $190 but that's not coming out of the $1500)
now the hood i'm still really unsure of. everyone here says get OEM style carbon fiber, but all my other non-import loving friends say black hood on all white car will look stupid. so here is the following:
OEM style hood: $498 shipped
Honda hood: used $50 new $250
i may need a new front bulkhead and hinge for the hood, not sure yet though. that is $63 and $12 respectivly.

hopefully i can use whatever money i have left to paint the parts. and depending on which i get i may have close to $400 left or $250. but if i have $250 left i wont have to paint my hood. and will it really cost $250+ to paint a fender and bumper?

also good news is i have a friend of my moms who works at J&M autobody here in CT. probably have to stop by there and get a quote. if that fails i have a friend of my aunts who has a body shop here in west haven too. hopefully i have enough money to complete the fix.

thursday has snow in the forcast i'll get to my next problem in a new thread.

theres the update for this tragedy.

the damage doesn't look to bad. I thought your car was totaled. It'll be ok. First things first. Take it to a mechanic and check it out. Your body will be temp. but your engine is not.
I can see why your really upset...i'd be crying if i got into a wreck. How's the damage on your friends car? and how is he paying?

Open your hood and look at your internal damages. Your radiator, intake, your fluids are important, any oil leaking. Stuff like that.
