battery in the trunk

What's up folks?I'm planing to move my battery into the trunk(hachback).My plan is to avoid drilling holes in the body of the car.I'll be using sheetmetal bent to form a battery tray and attach it to strut towers(with a strut tower brace on top):eek:
My question is :Were can i fund a sealed battery box? It seems like a hard item to fund.

Try a Boat shop.
There are some nice black batter boxs avliable over here from boat yards that have mounting points on the bottom, and an FIA aporved strap for securing the battery.

Summitracing has few battery boxes(sealed ones),but the one that will fit my battery is $140. It is verry nice:sealed with a vent tube and is made from aluminum. But I'd like to see if there is a chiper way.:D

If you ever plan to go to a track or any sanctioned event, you must have the relocated battery in a sealed box with a vent to the outside. Otherwise, you'll fail the tech inspection and won't get to participate.
IMHO, you might as well spend the money and do it right. It is about your safety after all...

actually, that's a good point.... for the money you're gonna spend on a nice sealed aluminum battery box, you can easily have gel cel Optima and not need a box....

The guys with HUGE audio systems with various batteries in the trunk use nothing but gel cels and anyone who doesn't is considered a moron for the possibility of explosion of the acid fumes from all the electrical equipment.

I almost forgot! Regardless if you use a sealed box (vented to the outside) or a gel-cell type battery, if you relocate the battery, you must have a master cutoff switch easily accessible that eliminates all electric power to the vehicle. It must also clearly be marked which position is OFF.
Again, if you don't have this, you'll fail tech at any sanctioned event.

if you want to find a sealed Bbox you can get one in a boat shop.. they have them!
