Hello everyone. If you are a fan or not, watch Monster Garage next monday, aug. 25. It's gonna be a great show and I thought I would post some behind, behind the scenes pics. They are doing something new, American Monsters. My fiancee and some of our DMC club members and other friends built a rock crawler out of a Bronco and a GT40 kit car in our friend's garage. This may not be everyone's "cup of tea" but either way, it was awesome. June 29th was the design day and they finished on July 2 with the test day on the 3rd. so check out what a bunch of guys can do in 4 days!!

Originally we were going to use a blazer but the idea of it being all Ford may appeal to some ford dealerships that may want to use it for promotional reasons.

This kit car had been on our project list since we bought our house. It got moved around and buried in snow in the winter and we just never had the money or time to build it the way we imagined. Never thought it would be used for this project!

Our buddy, Rich, spent a day sanding and then it got a very inexpensive but decent paint job.

There is a huge loft in this awesome garage. The compressor is in the basement so it's not real loud in there and there is also a sink, which from experience of grubby guys coming inside the house to wash up and making a mess in the process, is a very nice luxury.

Someone in the neighborhood actually called the cops becuase there were too many cars parked on the street. I say, oh waaaaaaaa!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/4528646copin.jpg
Sucks for the complainors cause he was a cool guy and thought the whole thing was badass.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/4508197quarry.jpg
The test day was held at a rock quarry and it poured rain when we got there but then luckily cleared up.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/2585758bruised.jpg
Bruised but not broken!! Eric has always been a huge fan of Grave Digger and when he was driving it, he had to jump it stadium style. That was kick ass!! Got no pictures of all the driving cause i was filming at the time. So watch to see that!! Eric busted it a little but It was still driveable. the last guy was going for broke and tried real hard to roll it. A bolt that held on the front drive axle was sheared off and some suspension problems. Everything is fixable and not that costly to do it.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/1595909backhome.jpg
Here it is back home at our house. I wake up in the morning and look out my bedroom window and see that every day!
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/476085zhonda.jpg I had to throw this one in....my honda got in a pic. woo hoo! i am crossing my fingers that she got filmed a little cause she was parked all the way up to the garage one day and they were filming stuff outside on the front lawn. probably just wishful thinking.
So the GT40 was dubbed Yellow Jacked and is the first build done with Monster Garage where they didn't take ownership of it. Our buddy, Rich, is a master businessman and he presented his case that we should keep ownership and they agreed, contract signed. Rich also mangaged to get thousands of dollars in freebies on his own. the only freebie from monster garage where the wheels/tires. So we've been waiting 2 months to see this and i am very very excited. Unfortunately, they share the time slot with another build that well...i'm not gonna say anything bad but hopefully the GT40 steals the show.
wow, that took a long time. hope it all worked and hope you all enjoy it.

i was gonna post more but our friend is putting up a website for the build and i don't want to step on any toes. so just a couple for fun....
oh and the episode on monday was the cop car donut shop. very funny idea but it got kind of lame at the end. they had a promo for the "backyard monsters" our show, American monsters is the first of that Monster Garage on the road special. they had a bunch of clips and it took the second time to see it to realize the guy welding was, Steve, from our team. very exciting...we watched it in slow motion :loser: yep yep
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/7756831GT40.jpg
another before picture. i like to paint things and every time i had some paint left over, i attacked the kit car, ya know for shits and giggles.
the car came with two plexi headlight covers. some one that was drunk sat on one and broke it. lost too many pieces to glue it back together and we didn't have time to make another for the show. we wanted blacked out ones. oh and the headlights used are the same as the ones on our '59 belair. i think something better can be used.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/848165jeep.jpg
go Jeep go! this guy, Fred, is THE DeLorean transporter and he was kind enough to come out and help with trailoring it to the quarry and our house. lot of double looks on the highway.

Well, I saw the show, it looks like you guys got pretty badgered by the announcers in the end saying you tried to beat their car. Didn't get much action out of the thing. Does it still run?
dmcgirl
08-26-2003, 04:58 PM
Glad you watched it! Yes it still runs. we just need to do some work to the steering and suspension. I think we got a lot of action out of it. The jump alone....shit i thought that was awesome. They showed about an 1/8 of the actuall rock climbing and of course they showed the worst of it. that's just how they wanted to portray it i guess. it didn't help that it just poured rain and the rocks were slick. it got better in the end when it dried up but like i said, they didn't show any of that footage.
i was very happy to see they used my footage of Eric's jump. i am still shocked that the camera guys missed it but it was cool to see my shot on tv. too bad i was standing behind everyone though.
i think the funniest part was them mounting the tires. i had missed them doing the first one becuase i had gone home but i saw them do the last 2 and by that time they had gotten it down to an art. the music they played cracked me up.
they showed a lot more footage of other cars then we thought they would. it was an awesome show but they cut so much of the other good stuff from our build. IMO they spent too much time on the shopping go cart but maybe other people like that stuff. i just don't see what the big deal was. they put a shopping cart on a go kart. woo hoo. eric built his first go kart in the 6th grade.
anyone catch the weird ass CRX with the religious stuff on it?
the BBQ bug wiping out and almost killing the camera guy. that was nuts.
i was happy they used so much of the delorean footage. that was cool and most of all, i loved how they ripped on eric for his hair cut. boy did he get razzed at work. ha ha...
it was really neat to see how "hollywood" does their thing with editing. like when Eric pulled up in the D and they said, eric the bald is late again......that was all staged.
did anyone else see it?

it will be on again Friday 7 and 10 pm and Sunday at 1 pm. central time.
no i wasn't in it at all. i am just the lowly girlfriend! i was a parts runner and put over 200 miles on my honda but they weren't going to film me just bringing parts in. if you see the credits my name is listed for the additional footage. i was shocked to see Marnina Patrick. woo hoo! my first step towards being a big time cinematographer!!
sadly i didn't see my car anywhere in the background either. oh well.:frown:
the garage is Dave and Julee's and it was built less than a year ago. we met them 4 years ago in our club the DeLorean Midwest Connection. our club's tech sessions are gonna be held there now. since the insurance went through the roof at the other location.
if any one wants to see it and lives in the chicago area, i can let you know what shows it's gonna be at.

dmcgirl, what was name/brand of the GT40 Kit that you and Eric started with?
The reason I'm asking, it looked from the door that it used some mid 60's Mustang parts.
I have been looking for a kit car that this one!
