I went trolling for races last night. Boy, did I find them.
First race: Classic Sentra SE-R vs 1990 Mustang GT 5.0
We both got stopped at a light, and considering how my car looks (stock, which it is), I know he probably won't think to race me. So, when the light turned, I take-off at my normal, but aggressive pace. As soon as I notice that the 5.0 is staying pace right next to me (my "normal" pace usually leaves most cars at the light), I downshift to second, and haul. I saw his headlights pop-up a bit as he realized there was somebody egging him. When he decides to give chase, he was about 2 cars behind me, which stayed that way until the top of my third, when we both had to slow down for a light.
Being that my windows were down, I looked over at the guy (probably military from the local base...he had Alaska plates) and say "not bad for a Sentra, huh?" I added an, "it's stock, you know" (I had to;)). He says "really?" I said "yeah, all I have is ignition advance!"
I already knew what was going to happen when the light turned. His tires squealed a bit, as did mine, which made both of us jump at the same time. When (I'm assuming) he reached the meat of his torque-band (which is a lot more than mine...duh:)), he pulled me by about half-a-car. Same pattern occurred, which had him ahead by his whole car-length by third (my front bumper at his back bumper). Third, my strongest gear, had me simply stay steady right on his bumper.
I pulled up next to him again at the next light (no traffic whatsoever). I said "hey, I'm not trying to race you anymore, but I gotta ask, what do you have?" He said "just a regular 5.0...I do have a K&N intake and some flowmasters." With that, the light turned again, I let him get ahead, got behind him, and I turned on the freeway exit that was coming up.

Second race: Classic Sentra SE-R vs Ford F-150 Harley Davidson.
So, I am crusing along, elated at my close race with the GT, when I come up on this black truck with an aggressive-sounding exhaust. I pull up next to him and look over (I had a feeling), and saw it. Yep, Harley-Davidson badge (their exhausts are tuned to mimic the sound of their two-wheeled namesakes).
In the process of trying to see his badge, it must've seemed like I was trying to run him. As soon as I got next to him, he punched it. I downshifted to second, and, amazingly enough, passed him.
We both got lucky enough to be at a three-lane red light with nobody ahead of both of us. He rolls his window down (he also had a passenger) and yells "Whatcha got for me?!" I said "Stock! just ignition advance!" He had this "whatcha trying to race me with it then?" look on his face. LOL.
Light turned, and I had one hell of a tire-spinning launch, while it seemed like he bogged. When I hooked-up, I jumped literally a car ahead of the Harley, with me being ahead by at least three cars when I shifted to third. I think he gave up at that point. I slowed-down to see what he says.
I know what you are thinking at this point: "Dude wasn't racing" or "He expected you to be slow, so he didn't try that hard"...well...he got next to me after he caught-up, and he yells-out his window: "Dude! You smoked me!", with his passenger laughing next to him. I asked him "Don't you have a supercharger?" he said "Yeah, but it's been running hot all day!" (Which is true, we are in AZ...plus boosted vehicles suffer more than N/A ones) He wasn't being sarcastic, and they didn't look like the types to want to fake losing anyways. Besides, they didn't seem to want to race anymore (if they were baiting me).
As they turn left at a street up ahead, the passenger gives me a thumbs up...cool guys:).

Third race: Classic Sentra SE-R vs (1992?) riced-out Celica
Well...if you are to believe the results of my other races (I hope you do, because it's the truth), you already know this wasn't even close. He tried several times...from a roll and from a stop. The minimum I left him by was maybe 4 cars. Most was about 7-10 from a stop (but then again, it was night...hard to judge distance from headlights). The funniest part was, in the first few races, he had his window down (he laughed at me the first time...ONLY). After the 4th or 5th ass-whuppin', he had his window up. Either a) he didn't want me clowning on him (which I wasn't), because he had his girl with him, or b) he wanted to improve his aerodynamics:redface:.
Fourth race: Sentra SE-R vs 1997+ non-turbo Eclipse.
Same results as above, except he only tried once, then hung back the rest of the way. He ALSO had his girl with him...and he ALSO had a smirk on his face when I first revved on him.
I am already expecting to get the B.S. flag raised for the first two races, but I hope it at least entertained somebody, if not me, who was in it:).
To head-off the flags, I added this:
My car weighs approximately less than 2,500lbs with me in it, while running about 150hp. As I've established before, I consider myself a good driver.

Good kill. I still remember my buddies sister's SE-R. That sucker hauled ass. I believe she had no cats on it (Straight pipe). We did once encounter a seriously fast civic though (He had 4 passengers and was playing with us the entire time). Those S/C'ed Ford really suffer in the heat. I've heard of 2003 Cobras running low 14's at LACR (2700 ft. elevation, and extremely hot).

Hey man, I am a little confused..
I DO believe you, but i dont understand how different cars work.
Okay, you have about 150 hp, how does that beat/come real close to the 2 ford cars you raced when they had quit a bit more hp? Is it the torque, weight, gear ratios???

i believe it. i used to have a 96 200sx se-R and they're quick lil cars. i'll bet the sentra is a bit lighter and therefore faster.
according to that 1/4 mile estimator my car with 255 hp at 3224 lbs should run a 13.5. :grinno: i wish.

It's all of those, plus the weight the available power is pushing. Also, driving skills play a good part in street confrontations.
I personally am in disbelief of my first two races. I was thoroughly debating whether to post those up or not, for fear of having to deal with flames.
It's all about power-to-weight and margin of error. The Harley-Davidson crew-cab, which is the kind I raced, which is rated at 340hp, weighs in at 6700lbs. Calculating power-to-weight, the HD carries about 19.7 lbs-per-hp. My car, on the other hand, weighs in at about 2350lbs, carries about 15.6 lbs-per-hp. Of course, the HD has a boatload more torque at 425ft-lbs. This is why the truck is rated as a high 14-second vehicle as opposed to mine at mid 15's. It's that much easier to make it move in a straight line. But, this is where the margin of error comes in. Just because a car is rated at high-14's doesn't mean it can't run a high-15 or a low-16 second time even. I've seen it at the track. As for the Mustang, it was already rated in the 15's when it came out, so there's an even less margin of error. Doesn't mean the car isn't capable of mid/high 14's. I've always known that my car has been in such company, and I've actually beaten a stock, poorly-kept auto 5.0 before. What excited me about this last 5.0 race is that it was modded and and a five-speed.
My fear of flames comes from the fact that the word "five-point-oh" is in itself a revered icon of automotive Americana, and I'm not sure how some people would take this car being held-off by, an almost stock, N/A "POS" four-banger. As for the HD, we all know the drools that the words "supercharged V8" evokes...even to me. You would never even equate those words to "stock 1992 Sentra"...ya' know?

My stock intake cam and ECU are considered upgrades for the '96 SE-R:D. The 94' and up SE-R SR20's had a less aggressive intake cam for emissions reasons. Also, the b14 (that's the model designation) SE-Rs had an SR20 that was limited to 7100rpms as opposed to 7500 for the Classics. Lastly, the 200SX SE-Rs weighed about 100 to 150lbs more than the Classics, depending on each car's trim (i.e., moonroof, power options). So, yah...the Classics are a tad faster:).

Don't expect that mustang to making more then 10hp over stock form with just mufflers and an air filter. A stock 5.0 manual is capable of high 14's, then again I have seen lightly modded mustangs running mid 15's. From what you said your statements sound pretty true to me. Good races!
WOW, from that calculator, my car should be in the 12.5-13.0 range. Damn I need to learn how to drive! :banghead:

..The weight and gear ratio in the b13 makes it favorable to more powerful cars..And the thing about the sr20 is that is has alot of tq for a 4 cylinder..It has a powerband that is relaly beneficial to drag racing.
I have destroyed cars with twice the power..But I also do have a 400whp boosted sr20..lmao peace
