How old were you when you started modeling? I can't really remember my first model but I went up into the attic today and pulled out some of my work. I built these when I was still living at home. So that would be around 15-16 years ago.

Early stuff...I was really into just slammin them. Usually there were no motors. :eek7:
I think this was a Beratta

I guess I was about 7 or 8 when I started, over 20 years ago. In fact, my first model was the annual `82 or `83 Trans Am from Monogram. I built it first, and then tried to paint it....with q-tips!!
Nice job on your kits. I remember most of them. Thanks for bringing back the memories, and welcome!

My first models were built almost 35 years ago...brush painted a pair of original annual '69 MPC Impalas. They're worth a fortune today unbuilt. And I'm too cheap to replace them! I started building really decent models in 1981 or so. So if you guys are thinking you're old school, I'm prehistoric:rolleyes:  :bigthumb:

Hey Calvin, those bright colors really scream late-80s/early 90s! heheh

I've been modeling since about 1981 but nothing good has come from me until the past couple of years. I was mostly into hacking things up and not finishing them. Once I put all my hacking knowledge together I surprised myself on how easy it was to finish a custom project.

My first automotive model from around 1982 was a 4x4 Toyota pickup, a motorized kit with no engine detail. I don't even remember who made the kit.

I used to watch my Dad build models when I was a young 'un.
My first kit was the Dodge Challenger by Monogram in 1983. Remember when they were putting turtle wax in them, yeah that was the stuff! LOL
So, it would have been 20 years ago August 21st. Don't ask how I know, it's a story.
At any rate, I have been modeling on and off the rest of the time.
Joining this board and Hobby Heaven board got me into the groove again for the umpteenth time.
I really never leave it(modeling), cause the kits are always there for me to build.
Chris

its weird that even though im still only 18 ive been into model making for like 9 years on and off, i started off with little airfix planes (1/72 scale, cos they were cheap and i wasnt very good at making them!) and then after a few years got into 1/48 planes, and 1/35 military (love big scale, shame that ive got no where to put them!). I only got into 1/24th cars about 6 months ago, due to changing interests and realising that it looks cooler to have a room full of nice shiny sports cars rather than tanks . . . ) although ive only finished 2 coz of school work and exams. But hopefully by the end of the summer i'll have my dream garage built and displayed on my bedroom shelf, although thats pretty doubtfull seeing how it seems to take me like 5 weeks to finish 1 model. :frown:

now that i see them up close, i like em even more. doing r/c body's will give you experiance, so that explains where your talent comes from.
very nice.

post pics when you finish your next kit. i'd like to see it.

My first model was one of those dick tracy cars. I was young and was soo confused why it was soo complicated and why there was some much detail. heheh..now i know why:biggrin2: after that i built a umm...i forget..but i cracked the windshield..and didn't paint it cuase i thought that's what your were supposed to do. I was into r/c for about a year..but was on the rc zone forum and saw " spoolin " had moved out of r/c and into models, i got curious and checked this forum out. From then on i started reading and falling in love with everybodies model. I finally got one(tamiya s2000). I didn't want to start of with an easy kit, and because of r/c, i was kinda a tamiya guy. I'm working on my first model in awhile and you could go see my progress pics of my s2000. hey spoolin :bigthumb:
