I have an 88 civic LX 4 dr and a guy that I know have a set of springs for sale....they are off his 88 crx si and they are H&R race pring ( I Think that its like a 2 inch drop) I was wonderin if those would fit my civic....and if they do would it b too low? I also have an other question...I know they say we should use performance shock with those springs but my shocks are pretty stiff so I was wonderin it it would b ok to use my stock schocks with those springs..(cause I cant really afford new shcoks rite now...) Anyways the guy would sell em to me for 125 $ (can)..should I get them ??????
Thanx for ur help !!!

they will fit. If you use them on stock shocks you will blow the stocks pretty quick so make sure to save up more money to get shocks not too long down the road.

cheapest good ones are tokico blues...

the tokico blue or the HP as its properly named is only valved 10 percent stiffer than a stock shock... it is not valved to handle a lowering spring. you basically have 3 choices
Tokico Ilumina
Koni Red
koni Yellow
KYB AGX
im not shur if the kONI red is available for CIVIC's but its also good for lowering

huh jeesh... guess i best pull mine off then... they've only been on over 2 years and been driven harshly on pa roads and been through trackdays while being dropped 2", never would have guessed they don't work...
oh shit... i forgot to mention that it was also dropped close to 3.5 " for a while with them on too...

do you have Tokico Blues Jeef? If not what are you using?

yeah i've had tokico blues on my car for several years now and am happy with them... i don't race enought yet to warrant adjustables... it'd just be silly for me to have spent that much extra for adjustabality when my car is street driven 99 pecent of the time... but even when on the track the blues held up quite well...

uhhhh yea.....:bigthumb:
I agree with jeef on both...
One, tokico blues are probably the best non-adjustable shocks out there.
And two, Pa roads suck balls
My tokico blues have lasted over 2 1/2 years, through being slammed on skunk2 coilovers, nasty weather/potholes, and even a 20mph collision on my old car.
and they still ride great...

Your cheapest option would be KYB GR2s. They work pretty well with a lowered car. My car is lowered to 1.5-1.75 and has been great on GR2s. I never bottomed out, ever. I'm sure 2.0 would be fine.

shocks arent for stopping a car from bottoming out, they are to control spring bounce... and with skunks and tokicos, your car will bounce alot...

drop the car 1 inch, 2 inches or 3 inches.. it doesnt matter.. all that matters is spring stiffness and the ability of a shock to control the bounce of the spring...
i worked at a suspension shop for a long time.. i even took a 2 day course in New York with some reps from KONI, TOKICO and BILSTIEN... i learned all about proper strut and spring combos for muscle cars, sport compacts, and trucks... you cant say that my info is BS...
if you take a car that has been on gR2's for 6 months, then put Konis on it, you will be amazed by the new ride quality!! its a fact...
sorry for the rant, but i hate when people tell me that stock or near stock valved shcoks are good for lowering springs.. plus i want everyone to have a great riding car

yeah i understand what you mean... but that doesn't mean that they don't get the job done... see not every one has the money to blow on huge suspenion set ups... starving college students don't tend to have money to throw around...

hahaha fourthgen...:icon16:
dx,
I dont think anyone implied that it was bs. What the other 2 guys and myself were trying to say is that the hp tokicos are just fine for everyday street driving, and especially when you compare the pricing to that of a koni shock.
I really don't have a problem with my car bottoming out or boucing excessively. I have the hp's on my skunk2's and they are at about 1/2" of wheel space on 14" wheels. The only thing I don't like about my cars ride, is the shitty tires that have no sidewall strentgh.

starving colege student syndrome is usually cured by waiting 3-6 months longer before lowering the car so that have extra money and you get a quality lowering that will give you good handling
