I started a new kit today. Its very low-quality, and needless to say has been sitting around for quite some time.

It should tide me over until I can get a hummer model.

Here it is.

yep :( my dad bought it for me way back in june, and its been sitting in its box in a heap in the corner since.

the local hobby store doesnt stock any quality kits, if I want anything good, I have to order it, and dad probably just bought the monte from walmart or somthing.

I ordered the Tamiya kit of the Ferrari 360 spider (dont have the kit # on me right now) but its gonna be atleast a week before it arrives, and this monte will be done by the end of the weekend, due to the fact that ive got it 1/2 painted already, (its going quite well :) ) and theres like a dozen parts to the whole damn thing. Finishing it will make my dad happy, and im sure I can find a place for it amongst my other models. maybe ill go with a couple of custom touches to liven it up a bit.

Well, you do a kit, you get your own thread. ;) Let me know if you want to change the title.

Take notes. And pics, if you can. :D

I know the kit you're talking about...

As long as the pieces fit together like they're supposed to - that's my standard for quality. I forget who had trouble with the Shelby Series One - but that's one kit I'll never forget assembling. Looked nice on the box, but what a fitment nightmare that was...

Anyways - have fun with the kit - and they look sweet in white :).

IMO they look pretty ugly in white, and im going with a blue, (i know, its not accurate, but I wanted to have a little fun with it) If it ends up turning out shitty, I wont feel too bad about trashing it.

Ill be posting up a pic of the body after the 1st coat in a bit.

Ive taken a couple of pics of the body. Ignore the crappy quality as I am unfamiliar with the operation of this webcam yet.

I wont post them here on AF, cause I plan to take alot of pics over the course of this kit (and I will continue to do this with every kit, now that I have the webcam), and I dont want to flood AF with pics.

They will all be in my shaw@home directory, and you are all free to take a look, and check back daily as there will be tons of pics.

the link to my webspace is http://members.shaw.ca/HuMMerMan/

once again, I apologize for the shitty pics, and they will improve as soon as i get a handle on the camera's features.

This kit is going fairly well so far. I have other kickass kits sitting around now tho, and I want to tear one open and just chuck this one now.

Only a couple of Minor screw-ups at this point. I mounted the engine into the frame, and without throughly checking the fit properly, i glued it in, lator noticing that the exhaust does not line up due to a slight problem with the manifolds that would not exist if this was a better kit. Now I have to pull out the engine and fix the problem. No biggie.

Other problem that pissed me off a bit more was I clear-coated the hood this morning, and on closer inspection there is noticible dust under the clear-coat. I must have forgot to dust it off before beginning :(

The stripping of the hood has already been completed, and its primed again (still wet)

Update. I almost threw the kit at the wall tonight, everything was going great until decal time :( I HATE decals.

Ended up making a royal fuckup of one of them, and then in my fury, I couldnt figure out how the hell to get it off. Ended up scratching the hell out of the paint, and then I took it back to my workshop to fix the paint job. Then I forgot to take the winshield out and I oversprayed onto it. Only time will tell how this fix will turn out. I hate decals, and I will paint the striping on myself cause its more fun anyways. Only thing is, if the fix turns out like shit, I will have to strip it down properly and re-paint the body, meaning wating quite a while, in which case I will probably get a start on another kit.

Ill take another pic of the body after school tomorrow. Im hoping it turns out 1/2 decent, I really dont want to have to strip it.

Keeping my fingers crossed :)

 Damn! Sorry to hear it. Go find the "What do you hate about modeling" thread and add your 2¢ there, too.

Bad luck about the decals.

Keep going though...the more you do the better you will get.

Just takes time.

Today's update.

Got the paint fixed up, and went back to assembling. After some cursing, and the winshield and back window popping out...its more or less in 1 piece.

This kit is turning out to be a fitment nightmare like none other.

Ill be posting up a pic after the superglue has had a chance to dry a bit.

Tomorrow....Re-installation of windshield and back window. Detaling will continue, and some more polishing.

I reckon this kit will end up on the 'never finished' list!!!!:D

I hate it once a major cock up slows a model, unless it is an R34 of course!

I LOVE MY R34!!! I HAVE AN R34!!!:D :flash:

I agree it may end up on the never finished list. I havent done a model in a while, so im not surprised that I cocked it up.

Oh well, you only get better with practise, and Ive got some other kits here which im killing to get started on anyways.

I just dont have the urge to finish this kit, now that its so budget looking. Ill probably get around to finishing it eventually, hopefully

I bet you all thought I gave up on this kit. Well the truth is I kinda did give up, well for a bit at least.

I just put the body into the CSC a few minutes ago, and that will need some time. In my spare time I have finished an old 96 Ford Explorer Limited thats been sitting around here for a while. Didnt turn out the best, but I need not be too picky until I get more practise. It will be a good addition to my so-far sad collection.

Pics of the explorer will be up as soon as the film is developed, as I figure that finished kits deserve good pics, whereas build-up projects can be shown with the webcam.

Ill update on the monte when i get it all cleaned up.

:lol2: Never hurts to say it again :)

Yep, I wear gloves. Infact I got a couple of boxes of lab rubber gloves from the mill lab where I worked during the summer. They are thin, but are really protective. I used them for doing bodywork on my Caprice as well. I doubt they are that expensive, since they are meant for single- use, and when I run out I will call them and buy a case of them.
