Finally finish my Supra, the kits was Tamiya Sard Supra. Thats my 1st time using Tamiya Compound and wax and trying the LED lights. That also my first non- box stock cars(wings and wheels from Tamiya Mercedes CLK-GTR). I m gotta try putty on my others soon.

Awesome work!
The LED seem a little too bright at the rear, its shining thru the plastic.

You did a great job!

I love that car and I hate it!!!!
I tried doing a street version twice but wrecked it TWICE!
First I wrecked it because I was a noob didn't know that brake fluid could be used as paint stripper and didn't know much about modelling. Second I wrecked it because I tried to do a targa.

In a way it has helped me learned, I did a perfect targa on my 3rd supra (my AMT Tamiya conversion project)

I think I've got to tackle this kit again! Put the Tamiya engine in it.

it looks good:bigthumb: however, you have light bleeding through the plastic from both the front end and the rear. this leads me to believe that your LEDs are a bit too bright and may melt the plastic if left on too long. but it definitely is a beauty!:sunglasse

Haha... tats my 2nd supra 2... i scrued up on my Castrol Supra

thx thx... i did my best to avoid the light bleeding thru, i painted the inside black but it was after i glue gun the light , so there left some spots

nice jod done!!!
You might try to wrap the led with aluminium foil and just to expose the led tip... my 2cent

Great work,

I agree with the others. The Wing is too big.
You should cover the inside with Bare metal over the LEDīs.

@apple.
LEDīs donīt get hot, itīs always cold light.

hmm... i'm not too sure about LEDs not getting hot. it depends on the LED, the voltage the LED are rated for and the current that is being drawn. in my experience, cheap radio shack LEDs do indeed get hot.

from what i understand of basic LED mechanics, the light in which an LED emits is basically an arc inside the doped material of the LED itself. in any event, whenever you have a current being drawn, it is impossible not to have heat dissipation. true that we are talking about milliamps in the case of LEDs but power dissipated is a function of both current drawn and voltage applied. i don't know what voltage they're being driven at so i'm making an assumption from the light being emitted. typical LED voltages range from just under 2v to as high as a nominal 6.3v in the case of run-of-the-mill diodes to higher voltages. i'm not saying that his LEDs will melt the plastic but from the photos, they look overdriven. this leads me to believe that the voltage is relatively high for this application and thus the potential presence of built-up heat.

I love the look of your street machine. The wing is a little overkill, paint looks great though! Keep up the good work.

lol... didnt no tat much abt LED ...
anyway, The pictures I took is brighter then the one in real life...
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/941036DSCN0799.jpg
my dad found that from IKEA which is for like $1, then i took it from him n try puttin in my models
it was 4 AA cells for 20 of those bulbs
but i use 2 AA cells for just 4 bulbs
cuz i tried w/ 1 cell and the light just wont bright up
well... i never think abt light heatin up and melt the plastic... tat would be scary

the styling of the model is top notch, I love the white and black on the supra, I've never seen it like that before, different but more importantly BAD (as in GOOD)!!!

did you paint it or just clearcoat the plastic? maybe just polish it??????

the model is simple and effective. great job!

great job on the model, but the panel lines looks way too harsh and light is bleeding through. try to use dark gray instead of straight black for the panel lines and you shouldve use primer to prevent the light from bleeding through. primer are more opaque and contains more pigments than regular paint which is probably why the black paint didnt work too well. you can also build a housing around the light instead which would be more effective at blocking the light.

as for LEDs, no they dont produce light via electrical arc. to produce an eletrical arc you need hell of lot of voltage, and the only effective way to do that is to use a coil and circuit breaker which an LED does not have. its hard to explain how it exactly works but LEDs are design to emits mostly visable light and very minimal heat. plus the theyre encased in plastic, it burn out before it can even get hot enough to melt plastic.

Looking very good!
I have same kit and thinking to do that for very long time but I never done it. That Supra looks me the best kit for puting that leds.
After that I will try to do same but with advice s which others said about bleeding through plastic.

I like the car but I also agree with chevyeuro93 about the spoiler. It looks huge. The last thing is the panel lines i think a lighter color would have improved the overall image of the car.

Good job though
