I think when it first came out. The new Si was way overrated. What do you all think?

Overrated? In my opinion, hmmmm, I would say it'd have to be NSX. All the hype in it, I just don't see it. Just my .02.

The NSX is a really nice car. Gets looks where ever you drive, pretty damn quick, and it's a VERY livable car. Could use more power to really be a player in the Super Car class though.

I don't know what my most overrated car would be.

I'd have to say the Subaru WRX. They are so noisy inside and I can't say I was impressed at all by them (no offence to anyone :) ).

I agree with you on that end. A car with such a prestigous racing or rally history, should be able to handle such a small issue as cabin noise. But I love the body of this thing.

Honestly, the Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Everyone has to have one, but stock, they aren't terribly increidble at anything...

You know what? I'll have to agree with you here. Compared to what they get in Japan, the N.A. WRX is WAY over rated. I guess everyone was so excited to finally get the damn thing...

...well it's a start at least. :)

Altima, well the way my friend puts it, He always brags out how "good" it is but he olny makes comparisons to slower, heavier cars. I guess I've just been turned off to it now.

I think the WRX is good, my friend has one, but I'd much rather want the STi, I don't know why they don't open up the market for these things? I mean why dosen't Japan and Europe bring over their awesome 300+ Hp toys?

I'd have to say the Hummer is an overrated car. It is a cool lookin truck, but the thing is uncomfortable, loud, has really slow pick up, and costs 80,000. I'd rather get an Escalade for 57,000, and ride in style, and comfort.

I don't think you have any idea why it cost 90K. Building mid engine rear wheel drive cars cost a lot of money. Also when it comes with Aluminum body that increase the cost even more. I don't see you talking about Ferarri F355 being overpriced. After all it did got spank by NSX Type S Zero which a lot less than the Ferrari. Nobody even care to says Ferrari are overpriced. If you are rich enough to afford one you wouldn't care if it cost 170K or 90K. Try the maintence in Ferrari and it might cost the price of your current car. The best thing is Ferrari warranty runs out in 3 years. Money down the drain....

I'm going to have to say the Skyline. I've never seen so many people get worked up in a lather over that boxy looking car. The way I heard people talking, I thought Gods second coming would be in one of those. After seeing it, I am left exceedingly unimpressed.

They used to. Then Mitsubishi stopped the GTO (3000GT VR4 :D ) and Toyota stopped the Supra.

Honda's NSX (Accura - whatever) will pass the 300ph mark with their next generation. Some of the Lexus line will hit the 300hp mark.

To be fair, you're juding purely purely in terms of driving a car around town. It was not desiegned for that, and I'd say most people don't "rate" it that way.

I think that the hummers are kinda over rated also.... they're not that amazing for the price, i've seen them on tv gettin stuck in the mud... not impressive. Plus what swonder said

Yogs: there are already Lexus cars with 300+ HP (like the SC430)

NSX is pretty over rated i'd say... it's not really worth the price, but it's still a really good car, i'd say it's almost worth the price. It's not Honda/Acura's fault though, they have that stupid 280hp agreement in Japan, which is gunna be broken shortly

Hey Hey. Nobody beats up on the hummer

j/k

Its your opinion if you think it is overrated, but I say that it is not. Do you honestly see that many ad's for a hummer, compared to say a
WRX? It does exactly what it was designed for, and nothing more should be asked of it. someone buying a hummer doesnt buy it for comfort, or acceleration, they buy it for off-roading (or showing off :D )

would you say that you wouldnt purchase a VW Golf cause it wont tow 10000 lbs?, no you wouldnt say that, you may have other reasons why you would not purchase it, but if you were looking for something to tow with you wouldnt look at a golf. im using a golf as an example cause it was not designed for towing, it does what it was designed for, and thus (i think) proving my point about the hummer.

I think the hummer is all about being a pimp car now..... barely any people buy it for offroading, it's basically for show

I think it should be comfortable, like how rappers make it
I'm trying to find a picture of Master P's custom hummer, it's crazy, it barely looks like a hummer lol :D

Thats fine G$, as long as you get my point. Its not overrated, it does what it was designed for and nothing else. If a comfortable vehicle was desired then they would have had a different type of suspension, and seats and everything.

If I was a rapper (which i dont want to be) Id have a hummer too, wait I will have a hummer as soon as I can afford one :D

I agree. ppl ask too much, would you ask a bone stock minivan or suv to do the 1/4 in 10sec flat? no? then dont ask the hummer to do it. neither of these vehicles were designed for it.

The thing I see is that the hummer is a great vehicle for WHAT IT WAS DESIGNED FOR and nothing more. ppl see it and think that it should be more, and are dissapointed that it is not.

I agree with you on the rare part. they are quite rare, and man they are something when you see one.

I am personallly not an escalade fan meself.

I love the new escalade.... it would actually be a pretty tough choice for me

If i was paying for it, i'd probably go for the Escalade, more of what i want, luxury, features and ride. But if somebody offered to me whichever one i want, uhh, i think i'd go hummer :) mainly just cause they're rare and they draw alot of attention. Plus i could put some TVs in it, a PS2 and make it nice inside no problem :D

I'd go with an escalade, either way. Then, I'd put some 23"s on it, and make it a pimpin car

My choice for over-rated car would be the Plymouth Prowler. I think this car costs like around $45,000, and for what you get, it's really a triumph of marketing over actual quality substance. Until a year or two ago, you only got a 214-horse V6 in it!! Chrysler has since squeezed in the 300M's 3.5-liter, 255-horse V6, which helps it out some. But for that price, it's looking to go against the Corvette, M3, S4, etc. Not happening. Enjoy your edge in exclusivity, because it seems to me that that's all the car really has to offer over the competition (unless you really love that quirky design - which you can better significantly for another $10 to $15K with the Panoz AIV roadster).

I'd also agree that I think Ferraris in general are over-rated for the obscene prices they charge for them. I'm not saying they haven't put out some of the most inspired high performance machines the world has ever seen, they undoubtedly have. But for my money, I'd take most Porsches (NOT the Boxster ;) ) over most Ferraris.

Swonder67
11-13-2001, 09:59 PM
They just made the prowler for looks, althought they should've been thinking performance too.

Well, the only reason it's not that reliable, is because it's a rotary engine, and they are notorious for running EXTREMELY hot

i have only wotked as a mechanic at the mazda subaru dealer for only one and a half months and i already have refused to work on rx7s

and i have another question why is every one always bashing the miata?? its like hummer man said "people should only judge vhehicals on what they were desined for" the miata is a cheep well built very relible little sporty car. there not extremly fast were not realy intended to be a full blown sports car. there a little car that are a blast to drive (especaly the 6 speeds) that appeal to every one from 16 year old girls to 50 year old men.

as for the wrx i too am disapointed in them. i realy hate the way the manual transmissions shift . and the transes have a durabilty issue when punished but thats about it.

i have no experiancewith the hummers so im not even going there:cool:

I agree with you very much here olds88. The miata was designed for ppl that want a sports car with styling and a bit of jam under the hood, but cant afford the top-of-the line stuff like a Skyline or something.

It wasnt designed to go head to head with NSX's, Skyines or any of the "high-end" bunch. It just is a very fun car to drive and does have quite a bit of snap to it. I would be proud to own a miata.

In fact I have been looking very closly at taking the caprice off the road for a major rebuild and total souping-up, and leasing a miata in the spring. Price is a major factor for me, and a leased miata or a used one is probably the most feasable idea for me.

The gentleman agreement was broken long time ago. Remember NSX-T has 290hp here but in Japan it had 280ps. Skyline produce over 320ps. Evo7 and STi both produce 300ps. Supra is also well over 320ps.

NSX is what happens when one manufacture doesn't update it anymore. Its the next best thing 10 years ago. However all competition bump up the performance big time. Z06 came out and Viper came out after NSX did. New Porsche was much improved etc.

Sure, they're everywhere, and there are heaps of them, but that doesn't mean they're at all over-rated. Because there are thousands of GTEs and GTSs on our roads, how does that make the GTR an over-rated car? Or the Skyline in general?
