As this saturday comes closer and closer that I can pick-up my EE9 I'm also looking ahead what rims would suit the car best.
I've made some examples of rims which I like
http://www.folieseal.nl/Patrick/s7.jpg
http://www.folieseal.nl/Patrick/civic_s7.jpg
Size available 6,5x15 / 7,0x16 / 7,0x17
http://www.folieseal.nl/Patrick/cup3.jpg
http://www.folieseal.nl/Patrick/civic_cup3.jpg
Smallest size available 7,5 x 17
http://www.folieseal.nl/Patrick/icon8.jpg
http://www.folieseal.nl/Patrick/civic_icon8.jpg
Size available 6,5x15 7x16 7x17
http://www.folieseal.nl/Patrick/muse.jpg
http://www.folieseal.nl/Patrick/civic_muse.jpg
Smallest size available 7,5 x 17"
OK they might look a bit to big but I dont know exactly how big I made them, heres a pic of the original rims ( I think that 15" )
So can anybody guess how BIG did I make my examples??
Do they look like 16"s or 17"s

Hi there, those rims are cool but i would advice you not to spend money on them...
altough i like the porshe replicas, a 17´wheel is much too big, and as you might gain some stability at high speed cornering, you sure to notice the lack of power on lower RPM.
altough if the car is powerful enought you may win 3/4 km/h at top speed, if the final diameter (tyres+wheels) is bigger
not to mention the price of each tyre in those sizes ...
And another thing, 17´wheel must have at least 205/215 - 40
that might touch the inside of the chassi, when cornering, or if the suspension is a little worn it might touch the upper inside...
so if you still want 17´ers , i would at least borrow a wheel to see if it fits well and doesn´t touch the chassi, even rolling...
This is just an oppinion, you do u choice :)
keep rolling

ps: those rims are all 5 holes , civic are normally 4x100... that also might be a problem

Thanks for the reply, and the info
Most of these wheels are also made in a 4x100 lug so not really a prob
those pictures are only taken in a 5 lug config :)
But the car is allready lowered (dont know exactly how much cm) so I'm thinking also that 17 might be to big
But the only downside is that almost all the nice wheels are made in 15, 17 or bigger :(
Its hard to find a nice wheel which I like in 16" ;)

I've done a lot of testing on this and xtension is right, when you go over 15" on the wheels you will loose a lot on the performance side (longer braking distances, slow acceleration, etc). While cornering the car will be stiffer but not saffer, the tire wall will not bend and it will not absorb any irregularities while conering, this means that it will slide instead.
I only recomend bigger wheels for a major cause (tuning shows, or if you upgrade the disk brakes, or something like that).
Just my 2 cents :D

OK so when stock 15" rims will get you a 0-100Kmh in 7.3 sec
how much will it roughly be when you have 16" rims?

how much will it roughly be when you have 16" rims? It will depend on the weight of the rims....for example if the 16" rims are much lighter than the stock ones it´s well possible that you won´t feel a difference at all.
Have a look here for wheel weights: http://www.wheelweights.net/ and http://www.superhonda.com/tech/wheel_weights.html

Quote from O.Z.
The Superleggera's design underwent the most strenuous computer modeling and Finite Element Analysis of any wheel to date. O.Z. went on to utilize a special titanium enriched alloy for superior level strength, at its remarkably low weight.
The production process was revised to not only incorporate heat treatment, but also a special shot peening technology borrowed from the aerospace industry.
All this research and work has paid off handsomely with an alloy street wheel that tips the scales at a scant
5 kg in 15",
7 kg in 17",
8 kg in 18".

and the most goodlooking too :)
maybe except for the Mugen ones...

You can also find superlegeras on 16" :D find your local dealer and you will see :D
Regarding lighter, superlegera are the most comun (and they are not that expensive. There are other brands thought that have the same weight (1000 miglia, bbs, etc). If you want to go for some radical setup and you have some money, go for Spoon or even SSR (3.8 Kg for 15"). :D

Correction 3.65 Kg for the TypeC ones :D
Superlegera sucks :D (kiding) Follow the link and find them :D

OK I think I've made up my mind and look for some 16"s
what would be the best tire size for them
195-45-16 or
215-40-16
or is there another tiresize you can recommend??

Well mate, that depends on the rim width
If you can find 16" x 6 ( or 16x6,5 ) then choose 195/45/16. Sometimes is very dificult to find anything bellow 16" x 7, and in that case you have to choose 205/40/16 (I think that 215 is way to much for the car and you only need them if the rims width are over 8).
Good luck :D

Maybe a dumb question, but why go smaller then 7" wide? If you do chose a 7" rim, I would go with a 205/45R16 tyre. Most common I think and less costly

Why the 45 instead of the 40??
Is there some advantage from having the 45 over the 40?

OK I just got back from picking up my VTEC :D
The people called me today that I could also pick it up today instead of 2morrow
they didnt have to say that twice :)
It feels great to have nice car now :p
o I also mailed two shops/companys for some prices on two types of OZ rims
the Super Legerra and the Chrono Evolution in 7J x 16"
Hope to hear from them soon with some prices :D

This depends on a few conditions:
1, how much are you dropped?
2, what's the ET (offset) of the rim
3, what's the condition of your shocks?
Normally a 7,5" wide rim woundn't be much of a problem. I know the correct ET values of the 5th and 6th gen for that size, but don't know it for a 4th gen:confused:
Don't know if this helps, but for a 6th gen, an offset of 45 is recommende with a 7,5" wide rim, alltough, if you really drop it and don't correct your camber, I think you can also get away with a 42 offset...

The 2nd gen CRX has an offset of 45, maybe the same for civic of the same year. I have 17's with 45 offset and the car is dropped quite a bit with H&R coilovers, but don't have issues of wheel/tyre fowling the fenders. The fenders haven't been rolled either.

OK, I think I made up my mind with the selection of my new rims
I found a shop which had a discount offer on
16" OZ F1 Special + Uniroyal Rainsport 195/45/16 7 x 16
complete set for € 685
http://www.carmar.nl/images/oz_f1.JPG
The ET value is 43, is that good or not?

That’s the offset value, so depends on the offset on your car. The closer the value to the offset of the car the less chance of it rubbing on the arches if you lower it.
Those wheels look similar to the wheels on my car except they are silver and have no centre cap, good choice!

Good choice on the rims:bigthumb:
I think you will be safe with that offset. If you do rub against your brake pads or something, you can always use spacers...

If you like the style of these O.Z. rims then I would save up some more money and get some Racing-Hart CP035!! They are very good quality rims and very lightweight. Have a look here for pics: www.racinghart.com/wheels_rac.asp (Last two pictures.)
If I would have the money and if they would be street-legal over here I would buy them immediatelly!!

They not legal in Europe/Germany? They are not "TÜV-approved" and that´s why they aren´t street-legal over here in germany. :frown: I know that they are strong enough for normal streets but it would be too expensive to make them street-legal for me and most other people in germany. Or better: It wouldn´t be worth it for most of us!
