2006 altima high RPM when driving

I have a 2006 Altima 2.5 and recently when I start the car the RPM is about 700, but in drive (D) the RPM is about 2000, normally it is around 1500 to 1600. Is there a transmission problem, I just bought the car about 2 months ago, it was driving OK, I am very concerned. Any help is appreciated.

Is the rpm's that high while sitting still with the trans in D?
