WIP: Customer's Custom Caprice Wagon

Started on Yet Another B-Body Wagon(tm), got the kit a few days ago.

As you can see, doing stock Wagons would JUST BE TOO DAMN EASY....

Already started on the dual snorkel hood, cannibalized an old Pontiac formula hood and started shaping and working in. Also cut the nose off the one-piece curb-side resin body, and got the Revell Impala front end ready. Also sketched the outline for the moonroof to cut out, and started filing and molding the seats into something close to a Pontiac Bonneville bucket from the stock Impala seat.

Off to a flying start...

That is looking like a fun project.
Where'd ya get the wagon body? I built one by grafting the roof and rear panels from an Alternomad to an Impala SS then. I got creative when rounding the rear quarters, tail lights and the rear bumper. Your way looks easier tho I'm pleased with my results.

Uhhh ya, you kinda did it the hard way.

modelhaus sells both the Caprice and Roadmaster transkits for the Revell Impala.

Hooya another wagon! Good luck with this one dude. Looks awsome so far. I don't understand what you are doing for the front end. Isn't there a caprice wagon already?

Well the kit is resin. And the customer wants full detail, not curbside. So making the custom dual snorkel hood, the custom front air dam with the fog lights, AND having an opening hood, would be much more difficult on the resin piece (especially cutting open the hood evenly) than on styrene.

Oooo ok then. I had always thought the resin kits had separate hoods.

I built it just before Modelhaus released theirs (that's my story and I'm sticking to it.)
I saved a few bucks if not a few hours.
I checked yours out. I built a two door; what I've named the Caprice 'Sportsman' and painted it
the same GM 7190 Fawn Gold color as yours. What a great color that one is straight out of the can.
I'll post pictures even though it's not finished.
It's nice to see a couple Modelhaus wagons completed. I created my tail lights by building up the styrene
on the inside corners and carefully filing and shaping them on the outside then carefully cutting them out using
a #11 knife. I've yet to cast any resin parts so I just painted these . of the 2 wagons I kept 1 set in primer
so I can try to cast them unless someone else wants to give it a try.
No disrespect to the guys at the 'haus but I prefer the results I achieved on these lights to the ones I see in yours.
They appear a bit bulbous and have a very heavy crease separating the red from the reverse lights. This feature
is one of the most elegant, and one of my favorite features on the 1:1 cars so I wanted to get it as correct as possible.

Please don't take that as a criticism of your work as, with respect, I think you've done a fine job.

Rough body work just about done... cut off the original step bumper and recessed it inward to create a rollpan. Shaved off all the side trim, and smoothed the front bumper as well. Only thing left to do is drill some holes for the front fog lights in the air dam.

That looks like one of the baddest wagons I have ever seen! And it looks like your model of it is going to be killer as well! Nice work. Where are you finding all these wagon owners?

I like it, your building skills are improving faster than ever, evry build looks better than the last.

Not my type of build, but your doing a great job on the body and hood. The customer for sure will be pleased. Hopefully no disaster will strike.

Lots of work, just didn't have time to post pics... Body got its first shot of primer, to find the errors... some more filling and sanding to do now, but the air dam, smoothed body sides and rear rollpan are there. Interior is done, including the rug on the dash and a console (still gotta put the shifter in)... Engine done (from a Corvette LT1 kit.)
