'70 Buick GSX

I had a friend in high school that had a lemon yellow GSX with a 455. It was the fastest car out of all my buddies' rides. His had natural aluminum Centerlines. These are chrome, but I'm thinking of stripping them and spraying with alclad. I'm also thinking of painting the car Tamiya acrylic gold (I have too many yellow cars already!). Any opinions?

This is the stance I was looking for. Wheels and rear tires are from an AMT '69 Nova kit that did not want to go together.

The air cleaner assembly comes completely chromed, but the proper finish is a black body with chrome lid. I stripped the chrome with NaOH (except the lid) and painted the body semi-gloss black

I've built 2 of these, and loved them VERY much! Great kits, though lacking in some details, they still build into very convincing models right out of the box. You sir, are going to have a true beauty if the rest of the car looks like your motor.

Thanks for the nice comments. It's coming along nicely. I went ahead with the Tamiya acrylic gold and acrylic clear and I just don't have the hang of it yet. I had trouble determining the right thickness of coat, how many coats, etc. I also didn't have much luck sanding and polishing the car when I was done. I ended up repainting and just rubbing it out with some polishing compound, then Zaino. It looks OK, but not as good as enamel. I'll stick with enamel from now on I guess, although this Tamyia color is perfect for the car, IMO.

I still have a lot of work to do on the body and under the hood, but this is how she looks at this point. I think I'll leave the decals off. I like the clean look without them.

I have a Hotwheels little '70 Buick GSX, when I came across this thread I was surprised that there are bigger scale models available. Considering to build one some time later. What's the scale of this one? 1:24 or 1:25?

Before you strip the chrome, try some dull coat on the chrome. It turns out really nice, like natural "almost polished" aluminum.

The color is perfect. I can't wait to see it all complete. Remember though, the inner fenders under the hood are black from the factory, though it is not uncommon to see them painted body color in custom applications.

Well, the GS hasn't been touched since I last wrote in this thread. Hot weather is coming soon and that's usually when I like to turn on the AC and get back to modeling again. I'm looking forward to finishing this bad boy up. Thanks again for all the comments.
