99 Durango window regulator
How hard is it to replace a window regulator. My drivers side front window would not work, but all the others did. I replaced the master switch, but still wouldnt work. I will assume that the regulator motor is bad. If it is something that isnt that hard, I may try to buy and replace it myself. any help would be appreciated

Re: 99 Durango window regulator
If you search, you can find instructions on how to do it. It looks pretty easy. I will be doing this this weekend as well on my co-workers durango. Sounds like it shouldn't take more than an hour or so. I think I found the directions on something like dakota-durangoforum.com or something like that, don't remember exactly cuz I just grabbed them from a google search and went on my way (dont have a dak or dur myself).

Re: 99 Durango window regulator
The hardest part will be getting the door panel off. Make sure you find all of the screws before you start pulling! Depending on the position of the window and how it is mounted to the regulator you may have a slight challenge separating the two but it always possible. If the cable is not messed up, you can tap on the window motor while hitting the up or down button and sometimes this will be enough to get it working, allowing you to get the window in a better position to disconnect it from the regulator.

Re: 99 Durango window regulator
To get the door panel off, check carefully to see you've removed all screws. Then pull the panel away slightly at the bottom and lift the entire panel UPWARD to clear some clips. It does not have the barb-type, push-in clips you might be used to seeing.
Typical failure mode is breaking of a small piece of plastic that guides the continuous cable at the bottom (yes, it is a continuous cable setup, not the scissors-type setup you might be used to seeing). Bad news is, if it is the broken clip, or a failed motor, you still have to buy the entire motor-cable-guide assembly...there are no individually replaceable pieces. And of course, this is only available from the stealership = pricey. Despite all I've said, it isn't that difficult a job. Just frustrating because you can only replace, you can't really "fix" anything. Good luck.

Re: 99 Durango window regulator
jpb - Thanks for the link. Good to find out individual pieces are now available.
(PS - had to truncate your link somewhat, but eventually got there!)
