Re: subframe bolt broke...?
What specific subframe bolt are you referring to? Might help to post a pic.

Re: subframe bolt broke...?
Sounds fishy! Is it a dealer that broke the bolt? Make them pay for it.
What vehicle is this?

Re: subframe bolt broke...?
i have a 2000 pontiac grand prix gtp supercharged, and it was the blot on the drivers side, the one right below the cradle???? thats all i know. Today i was told its not the rack and pinion, or the gear box or the knuckle for the steering that it is actually my steering column. none of this makes any sense. i wish i knew how this bolt could of broke. i just had my mounts and cv boot changed, would that bolt have to be removed to get to any of that...?

Re: subframe bolt broke...?
Really hard to tell without knowing the specific bolt being referred to. There are many bolts. Even ones that hold the rack and pinion to the subrame and other components such as the engine mounts, etc. As far as the actual subframe member which is technically the engine/transaxle cradle there are 4 primary volts. Two at the front end and two under the area where the driver and passenger sits. These 4 bolts hold the subframe up to the body of the car. But it doesn't sound like those are the bolts.

Re: subframe bolt broke...?
Is this the bolt? This is the one at the rear subframe driver's side. I've never had any issues with those bolts and they have been off at least a couple of times for tranny work. Maybe it was broken due to the previous repair work. Or worse case maybe crossed threaded which would raise another issue of the part at the unibody where the bolt threads in to. I guess rust or corrosion could be a factor but that is normally not an issue in the desert Southwest. The OP is in Tucson, AZ.

Re: subframe bolt broke...?
Not to mention the nut welded to the unibody will rust apart long before the bolt rusts far enough to be broken off.
