what kind of gas mileage do you get?
mine: 25mpg
96 xj 4.0L, 2wd, 203K miles, and Lucas fuel additive for every tank. All stock suspension, and cooper discovery tires. Anybody getting higher? The Lucas made a pretty good difference for me, from around 23.4 to about 24.8. |

Re: what kind of gas mileage do you get?
You own a jeep and you're bragging about gas mileage. You're insane. most jeep owners know the purpose of a jeep is 4wd and towing whie having enough room for friends and luggage. Nobody cares what you get for mileage. It's not meant to be a geo metro.

With gas prices soaring, maybe it would be smart to share secrets for any possible increase in mpg. Maybe I'll try some Lucas in my next tank, see how it does. My wife and I have a 99 4.0 5 speed and get 22 or so highway....less on the beach.

Re: what kind of gas mileage do you get?
94' cherokee sport auto 4wd, stock suspension, and 31's
i get like 17-18 on street and like 21-22 on highway. i mean as anyone with a jeep would tell you its how you drive it. if im rough with it i get less, but like fred said with gas prices the way they are, im taking it easy on her. ![]() just posting for other people as you were taught in kindergarden, if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all.

Re: what kind of gas mileage do you get?
sorry guys its just i dont care what mine gets. I didn't buy it for economy reasons, I like trying to get stuck and not being able to. lol. besides it's not my only car. My z24 cavalier gets only a little better than the jeep, but I can easily smoke a turbo eclipse.

Re: what kind of gas mileage do you get?
I've got a commander too, so I see both sides. This weekend, took the family in the cherokee instead. It is much faster for sure.
A word on brakes. My mileage went way up around the same time before I replaced my front caliper, pads and rotors. The grinding noise of my front brakes was so bad that I was not hitting the accelerator all the way up to the stop sign (and then slamming on the brakes). So, I learned to avoid the grinding noise by using the brakes less, and not annoying the guy next to me when he would hear my brakes screech. Of course now the screech is back with new pads and I am going to have to take them apart next week to put the blue glue back on again to get the squeel out. But not riding my brakes caused a major boost in fuel economy because I was using my brakes AND gas less, by not riding on the gas as much. There is no doubt that the Lucas stuff made a MAJOR difference for me. Going from 23 to 25 doesn't sound like a lot, until you figure I rack up 2500 miles a month. At these prices, the bottle of lucas pays for itself. Not to mention that the engine sounds and runs better. The trick that the guys at the parts store taught me is get one of the small individual bottles and also the biggest one they have. Then, you just refill the individual one with each tank. It's only 30 dollars for a jug, and by my calculations that should get me through at least 20,000 miles. |

Re: what kind of gas mileage do you get?
Chris - what is this additive that you are using exactly called. I'm sure there are all kinds of knock-off additives around but this sounds legit. Please advise.

Re: what kind of gas mileage do you get?
Here is what the small bottle looks like. They cost around $5. ![]() and those work for up to 25 gallons. I just put the whole thing in the tank. And you could go to Autozone/napa/ for the big gallon jug (which is about $30). What the guy at the store told me to do is buy the gallon jug and the little bottle above. Then you just get a funnel and pour into the little bottle to make it more convenient. I don't work for these guys and have no financial interest in their product whatsoever--but I'd recommend it to anyone. It may not do much for your Jeep, but it did for mine. My small way of paying back the board here for saving me time and money with all the help I've gotten. |
