Question Need Help 01 Grand AM

First off I want to say I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT CARS. I have a 2001 Grand AM my tail lights and dash light go on and off when ever they want either while I am driving down the street or when I get in and start the car or park the car. These are the times that I have noticed it. I do not know what the problem is. I had a mechanic look at it and there are not any wires being pinched in the column that he could see. There is not any codes showing when he hooks up the reader thing, and the bulbs are fine in the tail lights. Can anyone give me and advice on how to fix my problem. I don't know much about cars and no mechanic can seem to help me with this. I was told by my brother that it could be a body control sensor or something, but I don't want to get that fixed if it is not the problem. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. :-/

Re: Need Help 01 Grand AM

Welcome to AF.

Guessing at the problem isnt what you want to do, you'll just waste time and money.

Its hard say exactly whats causing your troubles, if you can find someone with a tech II scan tool(other then the dealership) you might be able to fiigure it out.

Thier are issues with the tail light housings leaking water in and corroding/damaging parts inside the housing.

Thiers also other issues with leaks causing problems.
