'92 Camry RF power door latch

Seems like the power door lock motor is built into the latch on these cars and to purcvhase new at the dealer is very expensive. I was a my "pull it yourself" yard yesterday and only found a couple of '91's but I believe this latch is different than the ones on the '92's? Does anybody know if that is correct?

Has anybody changed one of thes over and where did you get your replacement part? Rock Auto doesn't carry it or many other suppliers that I usually deal with. Hate to go to the dealer on this one.

Doesn't look like a tough job, and would be great if the '91's would fit but not sure at this point. Any tips would be appreciated.. Thanks

Re: '92 Camry RF power door latch

I'm not sure if a 91 would fit, since it's not the same generation. Generation 2 was 87-91, while your generation 3 was 92-96. What I usually do in a situation like this is go to any Toyota dealer's online parts website and check the part number for the part for a 91 Camry and then for your 92 Camry. If they are the same part number you have a positive answer. If not the same part number, you also have your answer; just not the answer you wanted it to be.

Re: '92 Camry RF power door latch

The actual motor is mounted inside the door on the rear-facing panel. Follow the manual door lock rods back to it.

It is not an easy job because there is no direct way to see what you are doing inside the door. I have attempted to fix/replace mine (also the RF, go figure), but couldn't even see in there to know what was holding it in. I do know that it is separate from the door latch mechanism, so unscrewing that won't help much except maybe gaining a different viewing angle inside.

Someone may have better insight as to this operation, but I haven't seen or heard any yet. If you find the key, by all means post it...if I summon up the courage and patience to try again, I'll let everyone know.

Are you sure about that? I haven't seen one like you say on these Toyota's. On e-bay they have a couple that show the picture with the motor attached to the latch. Therefore, you need to buy the latch assembly like some Chrysler models(neon etc.). I have done many like you say but the pictures look otherwise. Thanks

Re: '92 Camry RF power door latch

I'll concede my surety is limited by how well I could feel the mechanism deep in there. I know they have to be mechanically linked, but it didn't feel like a single piece to me. If, as I said before, you or anyone has pics or instructions to replace/repair it, I'd be just as grateful.

Just be sure that the pics you are shown are from the correct generation. Alot of times e-bay sellers will use a generic pic to show what they are selling. If it doesn't say "comes with everything shown in the photo" or simlar, ASK QUESTIONS. I'm not doubting you, I just have less confidence in them.
