1996 Civic EX 126K

Okay I will admit that I have never thought about a Jap car until I drove the Acura Integra. Recently a 1996 Civic EX with 126,000 miles was found. Supposedly highway miles. 5 speed, some extras. They are aasking 4800 for it, and I am not too familiar with the Jap cars and age at which they break down. The timing belt has been replaced, which I know is required, but I am eager to hear current owners thoughts about the car... you can email me at [email protected], please put honda or civic in the subject. TIA.

K

A Jap car??? Maybe you should think before you type. I don't think Jap is a proper term. Oh and I guess you usually drive domestic cars and unlike them these " Jap " cars don't break down as easy. I sold my older prelude at 220,000m. " Jap " cars are very reliable and I pretty sure I speak for all Civic drivers when I say, " I love my Civic ". ( Jap car)

Typical 'Jap' cars made by Honda's longevity depends on maintenance and the driving style of the owner. All things being optimum, engines last for 400,000km no problem, Gearboxes for about 700,000km and Clutches for 100,000-150,000km. So longevity is rarely a problem. Compare some of your US domestics in the paper of the same year with Hondas (early 80s) and see the numbers of each still available compared to how many sold. Hondas win hands down every time.

I bought my 92 Hatch with 150K miles on it, for about $3000 out the door, and I have 235K miles on it now (5 years later) with nothing more than a break job, and one replaced driver side CV joint. change the oil religiously, your honda will love you forever.

(BTW, in my experience, the CV joints tend to go on Hondas often because most folks dont check the boot regularly, get under this car your looking at and check the CV boot, if its torn up, chances are theres a $250 cv joint replacement in the future.)

But otherwise, Hondas rule, no better car for my money (and I've owned the Yank cars *that's for you Oz*)

civics arent the best with pickups in the stock form unless you get an SI the deal with the 96 EX is pretty good though. As far as Perfomance goes you can do just about anything with a Civic Turbo NOS Supercharged all motor. Just aobut any other Honda or Acura engine will fit in a civic so you could always go swap. OH and the Third Rocker Arm is great *cackle* also known to non honda/acura owners as the great VTEC you may now bow down before it...... Uh ok ill shut up now.

generally on a Honda, the body of the car will go before the engine does......
