98 4L wet passenger floor = a/c leak?

Recently, it's been hot as hell in the afternoons so I've been blasting the A/C of course. But now I have wet spots forming on my passenger side floor board. My A/C blows very cold and most of the parts are new (bought that way). Why does a puddle form under the passenger side carpet when I use the A/C for long periods of time? When you look under the chassis you can't even tell. What's going on here? Thanks in advance.

Re: 98 4L wet passenger floor = a/c leak?

Okay. So I drilled the 1/4" hole in the A/C evaporator drain tube under the dash and it seems to flow a little better after sticking a allen key through the tube to clean it out. Unfortunately, I don't yet have the "plug" to fill the hole or whatever that part is supposed to do. So I taped it up for now. And it appears the leak is coming out of the side of where the plastic tube (with the hole) bends or connects to another piece. So I sort of wrapped that with tape and put an old t-shirt under the carpet for now. I'm going to have my wife's nephew (master tech) look at it Saturday when he's changing out the rear wiper motor because the first one he switched out was not working (remanufactured in el mexico).

At least the A/C blows cold... jeez

Hey man - how's the CD player doing? Here's the TSB link from my Web site:

Yeah, I just need this... Insert plug, P/N 5255217 into the 1/4 inch hole drilled previously...

CD player works pretty good. Sometimes if a CD is scratched I'll get a "disc error" message and I'll use a different cd. But if I really want to listen to that cd I clean it and/or smack the top of the dashboard until it works... haha.

Smile Re: 98 4L wet passenger floor = a/c leak?

just wanted to say thank you for everyone that posted the solution here. I indeed did the drilling order the plug and it was still leaking. I figured out that it was coming from under the plastic piece going into the firewall. I used some clear silicone sealent to fix that portion.

I also had to take up my carpet to let the floor board area dry out. To do this I took out the seats and it dried in the Texas heat. I now have puddles under the Jeep, where they should be to start with.

If anyone needs the directions on how to correct this, then let me know by emailing me at [email protected]. I took pictures to help the non mechanic types out.
