replace my timing belt..how do i do it?

i want to replace my timing belt for my zc in my 91 civic...i want to do it before i have a bad accident occur while driving somewhere. (this happened to my old 91 sohc and cost me a pretty penny...good thing i know more now than i did before.) so if anyone knows this procedure and how difficlut it is let me know thanks

i have been ripeed off in the past so i dont want to let a "pro" do it ...especially if its not all that complicated..besides i have replaced my head gasket on my 1.6 SOHC when it was leaking...so it cant be that bad.....granted i didnt even loosen the tentioner that time i did do my old sohc..ha ha cool huh....till my motor blew up....oh well i have my zc now......

I assume the motor is still in the car? It's not expensive, but a pain in the ass.

alright...i recently had to do this and i cant run you through this step by step so i would suggest getting a Chilton's Repair book...but....i remember i had to take the right side motor mount off to take the belt off...but first you have to take the plastic cover off of the belt....there should be two of em...one on the top and one on the bottem. after that you have to loosen the nut that holds the gears in place so you can give you belt some slack and then you can take it off...now the next thing i KNOW you do is put the new belt back on...lol...dont ask me if your supose to align it or not. i had a friend do that...so i hope this helped...and if im wrong dont flame me..im a newb, i have an excuse

Real simple-if you have tools. You need to remove the covers and the drivers side motor mount is undone from on top. GET A HELM manual. You will want to release the tensioner-without doing anything with the cam gears-don't let that move. You will prpbably have to take the crank pulley off to get the covers completely out of the way.
Most D series engines are the same and my Honda tech also took the dipstick tube out to get to one of the bolts. The valve cover should also be off to get at the covers (I think). While the covers are off you should also replace the water pump and check the tensioner to make sure the unit is running smoothly-some people replace them anyway.
My dealer charged me $300 for the parts and labor and I think that was fair as the work takes nearly 2 hours from the getgo and they guarantee their work. You can also put new belts on if you need them (every 4 years is good).
