Exclamation Computer Code Problem

QUESTION. if i disconnect the rear O2 sensor, it should set a code right???
mine does not do this... i think my computer is bunked... maybe that is the reason i get 30 mpg also...... you thoughts.

this is a 97 metro 5spd 3 cly hatchback. i had a thread started about one year ago. it was called " help 97 metro 33mpg" or something close to that.... well a update on the code issue, it finally did set a code,,, but the funny thing it still drives the same,,, sluggish.......

Take the car and have the codes checked for free at Autozone, Advanced auto parts etc.. Then report back what code(s) show up?

it set a code for the second O2 sensor that i unplugged... but that's it ....
