Suggestions on new car?

I've been looking for a Nissan 240SX or ford probe 4 a while, b/c I like the body style, they're 80's/90's styled cars, and they're not V-8s. All of my friends keep telling me 2 get chevy instead, and I love GM cars, but the only 2 sporty chevys that I can think of from that era are the camaro and the vette. I don't want that much power(or liability), but I want something sportier than a Lumina. does anyone have any suggestions?

what about a late 90's monte carlo?? Or, if the lumina isn't sporty enough, check out the lumina LTZ. It is really a lot different than your plain lumina. It's got impala rims, a decklid spoiler, monte carlo front and rear fascias, body colored mirrors (rather than black), optional leather, sunroof and much more. Bigger engine, unless you get a '97...I think it only came with the 3.1. LTZ's can be hard to find, but they're nice!
by the way, how much are you wanting to spend?

The Monte Carlo is a good choice, plus you also could look at the Impala SS. These cars weren't mass produced, had good power, but not too much where it could impact your insurance a lot. The value of these cars will continue to climb in the future, and will be sought out as collectors cars. Another choice you might look at is the sportier versions of the Cavalier, or Beretta.

The Impala SS is nice, but wouldn't it be difficult to find one cheap? It seems like you can't find one for less than $8-10,000. Ouch!

The cavalier is OK, but just not my type. The Beretta Z-26 is the only sporty version of it I can find, and it seems rare but well worth it. The lumina LTZ...hmm...sounds like my type of car . The monte carlo is up there on the list too, now that I've looked into it more, and the impala SS...wow, but out of my price range . Thanx 4 the suggestions, guys! I'll do more research on the LTZ, and perhaps the beretta. Those weren't even cars I had thought of before! Meh, I need to learn chevys better...

I highly recommend the LUmina LTZ

here you see the front view. I think those are the same rims (or at least similar) to those found on the Impala SS. Also it has a sunroof and a monte carlo style grille

There are a few more exterior pics located here as well as some interior pics. It also has a floor mounted shifter, bucket seats, cd player, leather, dual zone climate control. Power everything. Great Car! Submit a thread in the lumina forum about the LTZ and see what kind of responses you get. I had to watch Auto Trader like a hawk to get mine! People seem to snatch them up! I got mine for $6500 (talked dealer down from $8000!) with 64,000 miles. You can get them cheaper though. I'd recommend a '98 or '99 if you do get one (3800 engine). Like I said earlier, they were availiable in '97 but had less features

I'd shy away from the Ford Probes. I work with a guy that has constant nickle and dime (only it costs him $500-1000 a shot) problems with it. Nice looking car and all, but way too exotic and way too much crap crammed under the hood. Forget about working on them yourself.

OK. If the ImpSS is acceptable, how about its 9C1 Caprice counterpart? Same go fast goodies. Much less $$$$.

I second CD Smalley.

1994-1996 Caprice 9C1. Keep it looking plain vanilla, no cop equipment such as pushbumpers, spotlight etc, and with its LT1, and 3.08 axle ratio with rear disc brakes, you can have the ultimate sleeper. After all, the Impala SS is based on this very car (9C1).

The Caprice is nice, and I'm keeping my eye out 4 one. I've also been doing lotsa "homework" on the LTZ and the more I know, the more I like the car. I also stand corrected on the cavalier, the old Z-24's are like what I'm looking 4, and the new ones are OK, but only 4 wats uner the hood. I think I'll post in the Lumi board about the LTZ then...BTW, I learned that in MI, the 240SX falls apart like plastic.
