Twin Su Carbs... Canany One Help Plz

I'm restoring a mgbgt and it has twin
su
carbs
.. it's a slow slightly neglected project but i have treated it to new points plugs and leads but having troubles with i presume the
carbs. as
it's got compressions a good spark and plenty of fuel getting to the
carbs
..

it's not wanting to start and the first 2 plugs are wet with fuel and the back 2 are black and sooty like it's running to rich.. all the floats seem to be
ok
and i was wondering if anyone had any clues on what the matter could be as there's nothing ovoiuse...

As you can see there isn't much traffic here. Try asking your questions at www.mgexperience.net, there is a very active MGB forum there.

I do have a little time spent on mg's but just never came here. Not a big fan of dudes selling their own but if will help you out with your issue when your not getting a response here, then well , what can a guy say.I don't know how the mods keep up here little lone the guys that have expierience on all kinds of rides. It does sound like you have one carb out to lunch. They are a bugger to set up, but they do work.

Don't know if this is any help, but I had what I thought to be was a bad cylider. Car (74 B) ran rough as though it was on 3 cyls. I tapped the bottom of each carb trying to dislodge any foreign matter..no luck. I took each plug out, saw that they were nice except for one that was soaked. I thought oil! Nope..gas, obviously plug was not firing to burn oof fuel. Simple, I bought a new wire set and 4 plugs and bingo...runs like a champ. Helps?

You didn't say what year car you have. If you have HS 4 carbs as installed on 62-71 cars the float chamber is on the side of the carb and it's easy to remove the chamber cover and check the float setting and general conditions. Later cars had an HIF 4 carb with the float chamber under the carb and you have to remove the carbs to check them. SU floats have been known to develope a leak and fill with fuel. In that case the floats need to be replaced. Shake the float and listen to check for fuel inside. Sounds like the float valves in the carbs may be sticking. You can try adjusting the carbs, that may help. This link has a carb adjustment for HS carbs.

For any type of MGB information you can look at Paul Hunt's web site. It's full of valuable information

Don't know if you tried the simple fix yet...replace plugs and wires. Mine did the same on one cylinder. Bad wires. $40.00 later, runs great...
