90 Lumina APV Steering Column Cover Removal?
Can anyone help me, I am trying to change the ignition switch lock in my daughter's 90 APV.
The steering column cover is a two peice unit, but there are no screws for removing it. There was a small piece that I managed to get off but it there aren't any fasteners under it. So... I took the steering wheel off, unhooked the horn, pulled the splined gizmo that the steering wheel screws to and now I am faced with a plastic plate with no visible means of removal...no screws, clips or anything that can be seen.... I figured this would be a 2 hour job and that was at 10am....now its almost 3:30! any ideas? |

Re: 90 Lumina APV Steering Column Cover Removal?
The black cover you see should snap off. Than you should see a disk with a bunch off square notches cut around the edges. This is held on by a clip that you will need to pry off with a pointed pick tool. Another white plastic piece should slide off and a heavy thick type spring that is over the spline column. Now you should see a larger white plastic piece that is held in place with phillips screws. Once you get that out of the way you need to look towards the ignition switch and you will see a small torx screw that needs to come out. This torx screw might be partially hidden by 2 copper tabs mounted to a plastic piece. That cooper tab plastic piece will slide out giving you better access to the torx screw. Make sure you take off the neg battery treminal before starting this job. Also put the ignition switch in the run position before you pull it out. Hope you can use this info since I saw your post from Sept.
