I picked up an X-Penske GMC Savana van. I picked this up for an extra van for the ATV's. On the first trip it would not go over 65mph. It runs fantasic up to 65 then its as if some one is pushing the gas pedal back at you to hold it at 65. I took it to the local gm dealer, they had it for two days hoping that they could just reprograme the computer. It must be a speed limitor of some kind but where? If the GM dealer cant tell me, maybe someone out there has run into this before. Any sujestions?
HELP!

Re: 98 X-Penske rental max speed set at 65mph
Do you see one of these under the hood on the drivers side? Click 89 Series Road Speed Controls at

Sorry for the delay on thread. I've been on vacation. It looks like it on the drivers side. Do I just cut the wires or remove it? Thanks for your post.

Re: 98 X-Penske rental max speed set at 65mph
No, I think it will only idle if you cut the wires. Two of the wires must be reconnected. The solid color wire connects back to the wire with that same color tracer... I think. Try sending email or call Sturdy Controls. I spoke with the owner in 1985 while I worked for Penske. Dave Sturdy told me how to bypass defective units. Are you aware that it is not unusual for strong crosswinds to blow the vans over on their side? The faster you are traveling, the more likely that it will happen.

Thanks again for reply
Thanks for the info on the high wind note. I have driven one years ago as part of my job, ths thinking this would make a quick storage and go rig. You have been very helpful on this I will try to contact them via e-mail and see what they say. Again thanks for the reply. I'll post my findings.
