95 Grand AM - AC not blowing Cold Air
My A/C quit blowing cold air.
To my understanding, when you turn the AC to max the radiator cooling fan should come on, mine doesn't. I know the fan & relay is working fine, and the system is charged. The compressor is cycling when I turn the switch to AC. I replaced the temperature sensor in the thermostat body and still no cooling fan. If I disconnect the wire from the sensor, the fan comes on when I turn the AC to max. I have three questions. 1) Is the cooling fan suppose to come on when the AC is set to max? 2) Does this has anything to do with the AC not blowing cold air? 3) What else could be causing the problem? Thanks John |

Re: 95 Grand AM - AC not blowing Cold Air
OK as for the fan not turning on when the ac is turned on, most likely the relay is bad. It should be on the passenger side strut tower, not sure which one, I'd have to look later for that. Yes, the fan should always turn on when the ac is turned on, doesn't matter if its on max or not. If the compressor is engaged the fan should be turning. If not, you will have overheating problems. As for the ac not blowing cold air, are you sure the system is fully charged? Low pressure side you should have around 30psi. Lower than that and the ac is not as effective, higher than that and it will not work right at all, usually it trips the high pressure switch and shuts down the ac. Also check to make sure the heat control is working properly. Good luck.

Re: 95 Grand AM - AC not blowing Cold Air
if you don't already have the hose with a gauge on get one, they are cheap and make it so much easier. If your clutch isn't engaging on the compressor then your probably under of over charged, I hate A/C problems, I can't find the leak on my 95 Grand Am! Also I found out your only supposed to put one can of the freon with the dye in it into the system, something about plugging up the filter if you put too many in. If you put the UV dye in there don't spend the money on the battery operated black light, just by a black light bulb for a shop light, alot cheaper and easier to see the leak.
