Changing Thermostat in 1997 Lumina 3.1?

Where do I start? What tools will be needed? Anyone have a time frame as well? Thanks in advance!

Just 2 nuts and a hose clamp. Take the upper hose off the thermostat neck and bend it out of the way.

One nut you can reach (and see) from in front, the other is pretty much by feel, but there's a good sized space from the back side to work through. Make sure you have the new one pointing the right way, or you'll be doing it again.

And do the coolant bleed procedure when you're done, or it will still overheat.

Nuts look like 12-13mm.

The rear is a stud and nut, and the hole in the housing is slotted, so all you have to do is loosen the nut and slide the housing out.

Yea, I found out the hard way the housing was slotted on the far side. It was a pain taking the stud all the way out. I found using one of those ratcheting wrenches to work the best.
