How to change the 2 back spark plugs on drivers side

Hi, I know this is prob a stupid question, but I"m wondering how do you get at the 2 back plugs on the drivers side on a 2000 S-10 4.3? What has to be removed, if anything? Looks as though there is no room at all, while the other 4 could be changed in about 5 mins.

Ya gotta remove the steering intermediate shaft. There's a pinch bolt down at the rag joint just before the steering box and a through bolt and nut up by the power brake diaphragm. Once that's out of the way it's a snap.

OR

Some guys have apparently enough socket joints and adapters and claim they can get the plugs without removing the steering shaft.

Take your pick.

Try running a search on it. there was a article or two on it.
On The back plug remove wheel and look in threw the wheel well most are a straight shot in threw there.
The middle drivers side sets close to steering gear shaft.
Sometimes threw wheel well with a wobble joint and socket.
From on top get a spark plug socket that is make for a box end wrench to fit on the end of it. Tight fit but that will get most of the middle ones.
And do not forget to use the good AC-delco sparks that the book calls for.

I've seen them gotten through the wheel well. You need almost 2' of extensions to do it, but no big deal otherwise

Thanks guys. It's my uncles "new to him" truck. He called the dealer and they quoted him $50 to change them, plugs and labour included, so i told him to take it there. I don't think I'll even try at that price. For the record they said that they do it thru the wheel well.

To me that sounds like about a $30.00 labour charge just to install a few plugs. I sure wouldn't pay that much.

Any backyard mechanic will replace them for less than 1/2 that (cash of course)They can't mess up either

really? well not this backyard mechanic. to go thru that kinda hassle for 6 spark plugs for 1/2 of $30? you got good backyard mechanics, better keep 'em just for their hourly rate.

really? well not this backyard mechanic. to go thru that kinda hassle for 6 spark plugs for 1/2 of $30? if your backyard mechanic is any good at all, don't piss him off, better keep 'em around just for his hourly rate. and whattya mean they can't mess up either? ever have a spark plug boot basically glue itself to a spark plug? well, i have, then you need a new wire when you yank it all apart. ever break a spark plug off in the block? well, i have, then you need to get an easy-out. ever bust your knuckles before? If your backyard mechanic is human, he can mess up. i'm not trying to grease you, but its not my truck, and really for the price the dealer is charging him, i'm not sure I'd even do them for myself if it was my truck. your time has to be worth something to you. I'd sooner spend the half-hour it would take them to do it drinking coffe at tim horton's than spend an hour doing it myself for $15. i guess its all in how you look at it. i hope your not upset at my reply, because i appreciate your help.
