can anyone help :)

Hi all..

I have a 1990 1.4GL Twin Carb Civic and I need a tiny bit of help. Now the Air intake to the carb is in the engine bay i was thinking would it be better to extend this tube to the front and have it taking in air from outside ? doing this would force more air in the faster I went. Would this be a good thing or would it do bugger all. Another reason i was thinking about doing this is because the air in the engine bay can get quite hot.

Any suggestion would be great thanks.

Also when I get a job and stop being a bum i am thinking of getting a new engine preferably a 16.i but I am not sure on what one to get, so any suggestions on that would be great too .

the colder the air the better, you wanna make sure theres no chance of getting water in but you have to be pretty creative w/carb set ups. I'm guessing the carb is going to need to be adjusted to add more fuel for the colder/denser air.

Little off topic but couldn't you add a better carb? Perhapps twin Makuni carbs!?

The dual carbs in the Dual Carb honda engines, like those in the 4th gen civics and 2nd gen integras, are actually controlled by the ECU. so if you hook up a CAI, you will need to reset the ecu.

I found this out when i was looking at a 4th gen civic that had a dual carb SOHC ZC engine in it. The guy who was selling it knew his honda stuff and explained it all to me.

hope this helps.

All you do is pull out the fuse or disconnect the negative power cable from the battery for % minutes. Then reconnect the cable or put the fuse back. Start the car, don't give it any gas or nothing just let it idle for five minutes. During that time it will adjust for the new air to fuel ratio.

Thanks..

Also for the guy who suggested resetting the ECU...

I'm not sure if it will be a prob but I will be taking in more air the faster I go, i guess this happens anyway so I guess the ECU will calculate how much air i will take in when I reset it I'm not too sure ...
